Story's in the Bible and Qu'ran.  Are they true?

(1/4) > >>

infinite59:
I believe that some of the story's may not be true in the literal sense.  We are too focused on the physical, some of them are lessons taught through spiritual metaphors.

Trauma-san:
Whether they're true or not is irrelevant,... they're meant to be taken literally, so that the lessons within them will always be a part of your life.  If you start getting into whether they're real or not, you're not focusing on the message, you're negating the message because you feel the story is incorect.

Nicley put homie...

I think it also has to do with the stories being told to people who could not read, Who depended on the few educated people (Apostols) bacc in the day who could actualy "Translate" the words.
Over the centuries the stories had to of changed, to benifit someone else.
It would have been to easy for the word's to be manipulated for gain.....on the purpose of greed & power.
and I always think about all the body's which had to be sacrificed in order for religion to get it's word out...

It's good to belive in a higher power.....Imo
because it gives us something to reach for, and comfort's us in times of need & Mourn.
I saty in the middle & don't really focus on any true entity...
But this is a desicion I'll have to face when I finaly pass.

Peace

True

Since all the stories are related, I think taking them as NOT literal would be confusing.  I've never ran across anything in the bible that I didn't think possible, anyways, so it's no big deal for me.  The biggest one is the story of Noah's ark, but I'm sure if god wanted two of each animal on the ark, he'd find a way to make it possible... I mean, he is god and everything.

But if you try to just get a story out of Noah's ark, and don't believe it as literal, I don't feel you'll get the true meaning of the story.  I've found I learn more and more and more the longer I read, and study, you could honestly analyze and talk about each story for hours on end, maybe days on end.

I've thought this before, and I tend to lean towards what you are implying.
