213 Should Not Release... My Thoughts.
« on: February 09, 2004, 10:26:24 PM »
As fans, this is what we want to see more than anything. However, Warren, Snoop and Nate... they're past their primes. We can all agree that they had their time to shine. Yes, they still make music you can listen to, but not like they used to. It's time for them to bring other westcoast artists to the front. All three of them are in their 30's... its time to do something else... just produce, make movies whatever. I can't watch them just rap about this "young shit" ... GROW with your music... 213 would flop commercialy in my mind... we would buy it, but it wouldn't do much. They need to step back and let some other folks rap...

the question right now is... is it really worth tarnishing the 213 legacy, assuming strongly that this new album will be quite sub-standard?

If you ask me, the situation is a double-edged sword. On one hand, if they never release an album, we'll keep asking ourselves "what if?", and eventually become frustrated about the whole thing. Then again, if a mediocre album were to be released, we'll be thinking less of them.

If you ask me, I say it should be released. As far as Snoop goes, his reputation is on the decline, Warren G is pretty washed up, and Nate comes fly on any track, so I'm not worried about him. Sure, the album won't be "Doggystyle" material, but honestly, what have they got to lose? They'll be stripping away that 213 legacy that's been planted in oue heads? Please, if they gave that much of a shit about keeping such legacies, we would have never witnessed "sellout" albums such as Music & Me, and PTCTBTB (not that I hated them, but they didn't exactly stick to their roots with these LPs). 213 is no different, we'll be blessed with a few bangers, case closed.

id like to see it but im not relaly checkin for snoop anymore, hes had sum tite shit on Welcome To Tha Chuuchs but his shit on the newest mxtapes isnt that great , Warren Gs still tite but i dont think Snoop will let Warren outshine him, and Nate Dogg is tite but i dont check for him anymore either. id buy the 213 album if it comes out but if it doesnt owell. now if they made this album 10 years ago it would b a classic and 10 years aog is when they SHOULDDA made it.

I don't agree and never have with the presumption of "Well, since it won't be as good as we want it, they shouldn't release it".  Music is supposed to be an art form, and as artists if they want to release something, they should do it no matter if it's inferior to their prior products or what.

The Same thing is going on with Brian Wilson right now, next week, he performs his legendary "SMiLE" album, never before released, and you ought to read all the motherfuckers saying he's going to ruin it, it'll taint his legacy, all this.  Fuck that.

EXACTLY.  You gotta live the dream, shit, fuck it, if you never try you never succeed.  At least there's a chance this album will be fly, they oughta  take the chance.  It's like life, you have to take a chance on life, BPG if you feel that way just lock yourself up in your room, it's way to dangerous out on the streets having to make decisions all the time.

who cares if it sucks? if you don't want to buy it, then don't buy it. i doubt any one of their reputations is going to change at all according to the success or failure of this album....that's like saying 'prince is a total failure because his last album was shit' - we've all grown since they first came out, and we gotta expect it to be different. although different may not be what we prefer, we're all older....

think about it, no rap album is going to smash us upside the head like any of those classic albums did because they were something we never heard before....just about everything else after those classics were just 'bleh' in my opinion, but that doesn't mean that they've really changed, it means my tastes have changed because i'm used to the classics....

Hmmm, let me ask y'all a question....WHAT LEGACY??? I mean, it aint like they released 2 or 3 classic albums back in the early 90s or something. They were a group back in the days but...have any of you ever heard them as a group? Oh yeah, that "Demo tape" mp3 with supadupa quality... is that the 213 legacy?

Sure they have dropped some songs together...how many? 5, 6? Is that the legacy? Come on...

Dont get me wrong, I think they shoulda released a 213 album 10 years ago too, but that's cause they were hot then and not now. That's cause Snoop was dope then and not now. That's cause Warren's production was more inspired back then than now. But don't say they shouldn't drop so they don't ruin their legacy cause that's bullshit. You have invented a legacy that never existed.
