My opinion on this changes wayyyyyy too much. Right now, I'd definitely go with Rhythm-al-ism. Musically it can't be fucked with. Lyrically, though, Safe + Sound kills it.

I agree with most people's views on these albums but I choose Rhythm-Al-Ism.
Both albums are great but neither are classics.  Maybe DJ Quik classics, but not classic albums.  Just cause an album is great doesn't make it a classic.

CalebOhio: I think i can speak for many others when i say my favorite rap artists are white but i still want black artists to be dope. they are chosing not to be. that wouldn't be a likely believe held in a white supremacist group. I want Nas to deliver evertime but he doesn't every time Sage does. so Sage gets my $15 regardless or his status. fuck your status perception and labels you use.

Tie. Too hard to choose.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

if you wanna try to say, that quik aint got no classic album out
then there is nothing out there that even comes close to the term classic album...

I'm gonna choose Rhythm-al-ism because every song on there is a classic and stands out on its own.  Safe and Sound is also a great album, but there are less classic songs on it.

I would pick Rhthymalism over Safe and Sound. Rhythmalism is so far ahead of it's time. I think it will be another decade before heads really understand and can soak in the significance of this album as far as shaping the sound of hip hop musically.

Now if I pit Rhthymalism vs Balance and Options, I'd probably go with Balance and Options only because it's my all time favorite Quik album.

For a while I had thought Balance & Options was better than Rhythm-al-ism. I don't anymore, but I could see why somebody would. Lyrically B&O is a lot better.

Balance and Options stayed in my cd player for 3 years until I let my brother borrow it, who doesn't listen to hip hop and he won't give it back. That album brings back memories of college, partying, just having fun. I've made a lot of my friends DJ Quik fans because of that cd.
