Yeah Ras is definitely up there as one of the best ever. His only problem for me is consistancy. Sometimes he completly blows me away on a track and seems untouchable, and then you listen to some of his songs and he just sounds like any rapper. If he could consistantly put out dope material then he would definitely have a good claim to best ever.

This seems to be the general consensus...why? Probably because he's got the raw skills but he doesn't how to make a good song that people can like and relate to...I dont mean he doesn't know how to make club hits, I mean songs that people ENJOY LISTENING TO.  As far as intelligence goes, he's definitely got a vocabulary and he's well-versed in history, but I've also heard him say some extremely ignorant things about whites and Jews that don't do anything but make him look stupid and upset that he's never blown up bigtime.  On "I Aint Fuckin With You" from Rasassination, he said "fuck white people in general"...not only ignorant but probably taking away from his sales too.  You wanna know what I think the best Ras Kass lyric is?  "Damn, wishing we was still little kids/ But we grown men now homie, it is what it is" from It Is What It Is.   Why? Not because it was lyrically complex and mind-blowing, because you can relate it and just be like "damn Ras really drove the point home with that".  I think every rapper, whether consciously or sub-consciously, plays a role, they have a character that they portray to the public based on what they say or do, and the character Ras portrays doesn't seem like a pleasant character that people can identify or even want to try to understand.

Definately spits some ill lines, but Im behind the Nas movement in this thread. Prefer Ras over Canibus though, never ever liked Canibus, skilled rapper, but never got into him
