Dead Prez didn't have anything left in their arsenal of beats and rhymes after blessing us with Let's Get Free.  After enlightening us on "Let's Get Free" with subjects ranging from communism, socialism, capatalism, vegetarianism, martial arts, religion, government interference, CIA interference, government corruption, world polotics, American history, anger, depression, happiness...--

Dead Prez apparantly exhausted all their subject matter on that one album.  Since then, the only thing left in their arsenal of rhymes is "Fuck a cop/ Hip-Hop".

although i wouldn't consider it a classic, let's get free is their best by FAR.

and this might be one of the only times anyone every semi-agrees with you

Man, I wish we could even weigh your opinion on whether an album is any good, but ever since you said the amazingly ignorant 'dre is better than beethoven' comment, nobodys' really listening anymore.

Some of the tracks of RBG I heard were good, but their mixtapes are garbage. They'll never be able to drop an album as good as Let's Get Free again.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

Let's get free IS Classic. I own about 150 hip hop albums, and  i have 2 say that i's probably in my top 3 albums that i own. The mixtapes were ehhh... not so great. A few good songs here and there. Still have to hear RGB, but i doubt it tops Lets get free, especially since most songs are like 2:30 long, and since there are only like 12 or 13 total songs, as opposed to 18 on LEts get Free

yo just b/c you own a whopping 150 hip hop albums doesn't mean that it's a classic. i'm sure that there are people like myself, who own over 750 hip hop albums that don't really consider it a classic. it hasn't even been 10 years since it's been released and you're calling it a classic? part of being a classic is longetivity, and i'm sure it will prove longetivity, but it hasn't been long enough yet.

but once again, i think it boils down to personal opinion. as for me, i wouldn't even count it in my top 50 hip hop albums, as i'm sure many other hip hop heads wouldn't. it's a classic to you, and the other guy that no one agrees with.

Thanks for the responses.  Most of you were in agreement.  It's unfortunate that Dead Prez fell off at a time like this, intelligence in hip-hop is scarce.

JT you made a good point. I didn't mean that everyone considers "lets get free" a classic, but it's a classic in my eyes.

are u guys implying that they fell off because of their beats?????

i just bought RBG and Lets Get Free on Friday
I never really got into Dead Prez but after reading some good reviews i picked up these 2 albums

beatwise they are kinda different but topic wise they arent

Let's Get Free is great but classic i dont know yet, gotta soak it in some more

RBG is some dope shit too, love the beats on a few songs, they dont sound eastcoast at all more like some midwest/westcoast shit

i gave them a chance and it turned out good

could i get some more opinions on their mixtapes??? they cant be that bad huh?

RGB was dope.. i got it as soon as it came out...

...i agree that lgf is better but how can you honestly call rgb shite when it defined who they are?.

..not if you happened on rgb after lgf then maybe but thats wrong

...its like calling ice cube predator shite because in your opinion maybe lethal injection was better  ?

sometimes albums reflect the times and the thoughts and influences of the groups at that specific point

it's a classic in my eyes.

Same here. I picked up RBG yesterday, it's alright but Let's Get Free will remain their best and a personal favorite of mine.
