EROTIC D and the D.O.C.
« on: April 09, 2004, 12:12:24 PM »
I've always noticed that the D.O.C. always works with a producer named Erotic D, dude has a dope ass sound! he reminds me of dre before he left deathrow! I need some history on dude. I know he did alot of work with M.C. breed on his last 3 albums and I know he and dr.dre handled most of the production on d.o.c. and 6'2 last collaboration called duece. can anybody drop someknowlege about erotic d and what other projects he's been involved with? Is he another one of dr.dre's estranged prodeges??

Erotic D is a Fort Worth based producer who basically did his best Dre impression on Helter Skelter (although it's a damn good impression).  He has no affiliation with Dre other than being down with D.O.C.  He has also worked with Adina Howard but that's all I know.  I met a girl who claimed she knows him (I am from Fort Worth) and asked her why he hasn't blown up more.  She said he's an asshole.

i heard doc took a lot of skeleton beats/concepts dre had for his album and used them from helter skelter, not sure how true that is.

might have even come from the doc interview at thaformula

^^^sounds about right, I bet d.o.c. was tellin' erotic how to tweak the boards and drop the bass to make it sound similar to dr.dre's sound. If anyone were familiar with dre's methods it would be d.o.c.! but his sound is remarkably similar to dre's. probably the closest I've heard imitate his style except for maybe fred wreck ;)

i still bump 'Helter Skelter', that was one dope album, although his voice was fucked up by that time :(. Erotic D did a great job on the boards.

I just listened to Helter Skelter too. It sounds like D.O.C. tried to remake the Chronic.  Erotic even has a flow/ voice kinda like Dre when he raps.  Plus there's a guy on there (Marley G I think) that is totally biting Kurupt's style IMO. Obviously, there's no Snoop type rapper on it though.

Speaking of the Helter Skelter title, after that CD came out Dre said in an interview that D.O.C. stole the title from him and that the D.O.C. tried to cash some of Dre's checks or something like that. Anyhow, he said that D.O.C. would always be his n**** but that he would never do business with him again. Obviously, this has changed since D.O.C. was on 2001 and will be on Detox reportedly.

I liked Erotic D's production on Helter Skelter. D.O.C.'s voice took some time to getting used to but I thought it was a dope album.
