The Hi-Life Hustle = Rhythm-al-sim Part II
« on: April 26, 2004, 07:30:46 AM »
OK, so I've been a little slow on the uptake. Finally found a copy of this at the weekend - paid the best part of £20 for it, but it's all good, because...

...this is the shit. Haven't listened to much else since I got it - I just keep playing it, front to back, front to back. This is the best album out of Quik's camp in years IMO - and that includes the last two albums from Quik himself.

But the thing that strikes me most is that it sounds like the perfect follow-up to Rhythm-al-ism. It's all feel good, funky shit - no gangsta posturing, just fun music. Sounded great in the nice weather this weekend ;D

And as for Hi-C's skills behind the board: :o If Quik does retire, Crawf sounds like a worthy contender to that throne - if I heard the album without looking at the credits, I'd swear Quik did the majority.

Heh, must have missed them posts ;). I remember the poll versus New Testament though... personally I loved Free's album, although now that I've heard Hi-C's there's no comparison.

Oh, and 'Say Woop' gets Lord Funk's award for 'simplest but catchiest hook of the year' so far ;D

Edit: Shit, every fucker's posting at the same time! Seer - you can't hate that 'Say Woop' hook!

And I'm the biggest fan of Rhythm-al-ism. One of the greatest rap albums IMO - I wouldn't make this comparison unless I was 'so sincurr' ;)

if it was rhythmalism 2 it would be a step back

i said this before....it sounds complete.

haha.. that bit at the start, and throughout the song.. "give it to me".. sounds like "timmmy"... timmy is a character in southpark in a wheel chair that can only scream his own name.. in one episode he fronts a band. lol.. anyways.. it sounds just like that..

I usually agree with everything Lord Funk says, but I couldn't disagree more with this. We all got opinions. I thought this album was the shit when I first heard it, but there're too many weak songs on it. Only songs I listen to:

Let Me Know
Do It
Say Woop
Run Up, Done up
Hit Me Where It Hurts
Big Girls Need Love Too

Everything else is either average or weak IMO. :-X
