Two earthquakes less than a minute apart and centered far from San Diego County apparently combined to give the county a thorough shaking Tuesday afternoon, according to official monitoring data.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The first quake, centered 56 miles southwest of Imperial Beach off the coast of Baja California, was measured at 5.1 magnitude at 48 seconds past 3:28 p.m., according to preliminary U.S. Geological Survey data.

A second quake, initially described as a "light" temblor at 4.7 magnitude on the open-ended Richter scale, was centered in the Mojave Desert seven miles southwest of Edwards Air Force Base at 25 seconds past 3:29 p.m., according to the data.

Dogs barked, buildings rattled and residents scurried outside to see what was going on during the quake, which lasted about five seconds.

those are pretty fair sized quakes.  Biggest I've experienced was around a 5 I think.

I was just getting out of the car when they happened and I didnt notice atr all I was going to work and I got in and all my coworkers were like "JAMES! did u feel that huh did ya feel it?" and I was lke "QUE?(what)" and they were like "the earthquake!" and I was like "no". and thats it....

damn i experienced like a 7.1 before.. oct 17, 1989 in san francisco,bay area.. fucking nuts man.. happened during the afternoon, im sure u guys all remember the footage of the bay bridge collapsing, and cars falling into the ocean.. i remember was i only like in kindergarten and i was reading a book with my mom called "mr quiet" (u know all those old school elementary school books called like "mr chatterbox" or like "mr bumpy" or some shit like that.."
anyways next thing u know, it wasnt "quiet" and all the plates were fallin out the cabinets, cabinets were toppling over, everything got fuuuuuuuucked up..

I was over at my friends house and there was a tractor working in the back yard (extending it) he thought the tractor hit the house.
