Because the people who use it are smug, arrogant wankers who think they're being funny when they are just being obnoxious (and not in a good way) and usually not that smart but think they are 'sonning' someone? I dunno, everyone interprets things differently.

YEAH! That's exactly how I feel about it.  It's almost like they're saying "OOH, I'm so funny!" with it or something.  Subtle humour is the ONLY kind of humour, not stupid puns and crass jokes shoved down your throat and then represented by a  ;D .  It's like they're telling me "I KNOW YOU'RE LAUGHING!!!"... URGH I hate that shit!  SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!
