subwoofer boxes
« on: July 07, 2004, 05:48:56 PM »
ive decided to get either 2 10" JL subs or 2 12" JL subs, not sure about the amp yet, but i never noticed how expensive sub boxes were.

is there any really good ones, or a good place to buy them. Am i just looking for a "good looking box" or is there something that seperates boxes.

A sub box is a sub box as long as it is built to the right specifications. You can't just use any box it has to be the right space for the subs to push.

^ yup..

but whats cool is.  these days a lot of boxes come with designs for you to make them the right sizes. you can also find the designs on some websites.

what is more common is that you can find the speaker specs online, and use something to tell you how big the box should be.

All you would need is speaker specs. You can be as creative as you want with the boxes.

i used MDF for mine.. its cheapr and not hard to cut a straight line for a simple box..
i bought a cheaop n nasty jigsaw for when i did mine,  (£15!!)
so far it lastest long enough to build the box AND for me to build a cupboard and shelves at home.. lol

you can buy carpet to match your boot (trunk? lol) and glue to stick it to the box at the local car audio places

I made pilot holes and used really small screws to be careful i wouldn't crack it. I used loctite to seal it pretty simple. no i didn't flame polish it btw.

btw i might as well show you guys what i ended up buying.

(3) JL 8" Subs (retail $99.00 each)
PowerWedge Sub Box
(1) Hifonics Brutus 1000D Amp (i believe thats it)(retails for around 350-400)

i paid $200 for the subs+box
i paid $230 for the Amp.

i think i got a good deal. im gonna be buying a installion manual from crutchfield(there vehicle specific) so i dont have to pay 75 bucks for a business to install them.
