In case yall don't know, Charlotte is dead in the middle of the 'bible belt'.  People are very religious down here, there's churches everywhere in the south.  Anyways... I turn on the A.M. station today as I'm driving around talking to myself (see other threads for clarification)... and the news pops on, here's the announcer

"FOUL MOUTH RAPPER, NELLY has become part owner of the new Charlotte Bobcats expansion team"

it was just so hilarious to hear a news guy, who's usually pretty straight, say it like that.  "FOUL MOUTH RAPPER NELLY" LOL.  Basically, people don't like it.

The problem is, Bob Johnson has went around and made a big deal out of saying that he wants the Bobcats to be a family entertainment choice, and has literally, i'm not exagerating, made a HUGE deal out of how squeaky clean he wants the Bobcats to be.  He's talked about how they don't want players with bad attitudes, etc. and he wants it something the city can be proud of, etc... and then he hires Nelly; whom whether yall want to admit it or not, does not portray the family values that Bob Johnston is pitching as what the Bobcats are all about.  So it's kind of a slap in the face, and people are pretty pissed off about it. 

Personally, I don't care either way, but I think if he's going to go around saying the Bobcats are going to be squeaky clean, he doesn't need to bring in a FOUL MOUTH RAPPER as part owner.  The Bobcats had a lot of good publicity going for them, even though the city and the taxpayers were basically forced to build them an Arena downtown on prime real estate. 

Basically, before the Hornets left, they wanted an uptown arena to stay.  They held a vote, and the taxpayers overwhelmingly voted "Hell no" we don't want to pay for an arena.  Hornets leave, and the Mayor promises Bob Johnson 200 million or so in taxpayer money to build an uptown arena for him.  The mayor says it's not the same deal, but basically we've already voted no to an uptown arena.  So people were already pissed about that, but liked Bob Johnson because he acts like he is a family type of guy.  The Nelly thing just pisses everybody off again.  Basically, the owners of the Hornets were such assholes, that Charlotte, who once led the league several years straight in attendance records, stopped going to games out of disgust.  Near the end, most games were less than half full.  The same thing could easily happen to the Bobcats, Johnson better be careful what he does.
