Remember the time...
« on: August 03, 2004, 06:18:40 PM »
Remember the time where you would have to bring out the tape recorders on your radio to record new hot songs or rare drops? The internet took that away...I can get all the new songs before the radio stations even get them! Music was so much more enjoyable and fun to be involved in back in the day...and that's not too long ago.
I think it was REALLY exciting when I first started downloading music from the internet, but now I feel like I'm cheating myself out of a good experience. For example, when I get a new CD I've probably already listened to most of it if not all of it. It's been a while since I've gotten chills while listening to new music.

How does this relate to west coast hip-hop? Well, I think it's a shame that I have to log onto websites which people from overseas own to get new news on west coast hip hop! Here on the West radio was the source for all the new stuff. We had two radio stations that really supported west coast hip hop in Power 106 and 92.3 The Beat. We have  Friday Night Flavas and The Wake Up Show, but everything I mentioned is really watered down now. Instead of getting my tape recorder ready for new cuts, I have to go to websites which are based outside of the left coast so I could download them. I hear too much East coast and Southern stuff now...it was cool in the beginning but now its just out of hand. I can't turn on Power 106 without hearing Lil John or Kanye West. Don't get me wrong, I may like those guys, but this is a westcoast station! Where is the local hip hop I'm supposed to be hearing?

It's really a shame, but I have faith that everything will change soon.

I prefer it because you can get the songs in better quality, but I feel you, man. The internet has done a lot of damage to music.

I remember when I was like 10 there was a radio show called "Beats To The Rhyme", it was on Mondays from Midnight to Six AM.  It was hosted by a DJ from Oakland, so he only played westcoast stuff, I had so much rare stuff.
