Does nas have ARGUABLY five classic cds?  Im not saying all 5 listed below are (or will be) classics, everyone has their opinions afterall.  BUt what other rapper has 5 cds that can be considered by many to be a classic. (id only take Illmatic and IWW personally)

illmatic
IWW
Stillmatic
Lost Tapes
Disciple

not to mention I am and God Son, both of which arent bad cds at all, just not great

what other rapper has this many solo cds at this high of a level?  drop your thoughts

teecee

again, you dont have to think they are all classics, but just acknowledge that MANY others do!

perhhaps ice cube is up there (only if you added Bow Down or Straight outta compton)

jay z (reasonable doubt and blueprint spring to mind, personally i also think TBA)

2pac (MATW,  AEOM, Makeveli)

Scarface (once again, with his group albums hes up there)

LL Cool J (how many classics would u say he has?

who else?

 ???

Is this a parody on the "most overrated MC's" thread.. ?
Illmatic is the only classic up there, while Stillmatic & Lost Tapes are both good CD's.
I have never heard anybody refer to more than 2 Nas classics. (Illmatic, and some people claim Stillmatic)

I think you're overhyping Nas skills something ridiculous.

He has:
2 good albums
2 great albums
1 outstanding album
1 flawless album
1 classic

His next should be really good.  Nas will have the best catalog ever when he decides to write no more.

CalebOhio: I think i can speak for many others when i say my favorite rap artists are white but i still want black artists to be dope. they are chosing not to be. that wouldn't be a likely believe held in a white supremacist group. I want Nas to deliver evertime but he doesn't every time Sage does. so Sage gets my $15 regardless or his status. fuck your status perception and labels you use.

Guys, i am NOT saying nas will have five classics after Disciple, and i dont think he will either .

Jome, u never heard anyone say IWW was a classic?  Seriously, even though that cd was a drastic departure production wise from nas' debut, it was a GREAT cd that was a huge hit at the time.  Most people that dis it now werent even into rap back then, or were only into the hardcore sound of Illmatic.  I was disappointed with IWW at first, but the more i listened i began to view IWW as a great commercial hiphop cd with lyrics and storytelling.  LOTS of people think the album is a classic, except for two groups of people
1)young cats who werent around then who hear all the ype about Illmatic (besides true heads, noone even noticed that cd by the way when it dropped) and
2) cats who ONLy like so-called "true" hiphop who were disappointed that Nas switched up his style

ras kass, i pretty well agree with what u got there, i dont really think Stillmatic is classic either, id say Illmatic and IWW, although they are completely different albums.  If IWW was Nas first album, he wouldnt have the backlash he receives for the album ,it would just be considered a classic debut like REasonable DOubt or REady to Die

regardless, not many people can fuck with nas' catalogue, point made.  Classic material is always subject to opinion, i guess the only albums that are true classics are ones everyone can agree on.......

Everybody agreeing on one thing is impossible.  Even a majority couldn't agree on what would make a classic album. If they could then every rap fan would own Illmatic, Ready to Die, etc.  A classic album is just what you believe it is, imo.

IMO it's

1 mediocre album (Nastradamus)
2 good albums (God's Son, I Am...)
2 outstanding albums (It Was Written, Stillmatic)
1 classic (Illmatic)
and 1 compilation of great songs I actually like more than all his albums except Illmatic ("The Lost Tapes")

but then, if we're really talkin bout classics I can see few artists with more than one...Eric B. & Rakim, BDP, Outkast, maybe Mobb Deep (not sure about Hell On Earth), RUN-DMC, LL, maybe Jay-Z, Scarface countin crew albums, Raekwon & GZA if u count their first crew album, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth...not many more

teecee - i see what you're saying.  Nas's catalog is very impressive. It seems to me that he has really come full circle.  Nastradamus is easily his weakest album, but I would say everything else is at least, very good.  Illmatic - goes without saying, God's son - a great album, i think as more time goes by people will grow to appreciate it even more. I love that album.  Stillmatic - Nas does a complete 180 from Nastradamus, went back to the basics, to me a classic album.  Nastradamus - there are songs on there that I can bump, but you just get the feeling that Nas wasn't 100%. I am - definetly had some tight shit, not classic, but very good.  It was written - whoever said that people reacted to this negatively because of what Illmatic was was on point.  When I listen to this album today, i mean its another incredible album.

I'd say its hard to fuck with that catalog.  And I think Street's Disciple is gonna be another great album. ALL HAIL TO NAS!!

I wonder if anyone else besides me thinks Stillmatic is Nas's best album?
Being a LAKER is a privilige. Unfortunately some "Lakers" have forgotten that.

i would say illmatic is the only classic, but stillmatic is also great album.

Juronimo, were u around when Illmatic dropped?  If not, i could see why its not your favourite nas album, it DOES sound a little dated nowadays, but to peeps wo listened to it when it dropped it was incredible and still is.  I have heard many times about younger guys trying to get into the album and they just cant...........

As for STillmatic being NAs best album, id also put it behind IWW.  Alot of people dissIWW but take some time to listen to it, its different than his other albums but as for a mixture between pure hiphop and quality commercial rap, this is as good as it gets

you're a funny guy. nas only has one classic, and he will never top it, because its the best rap album ever made. stillmatic could've put me to sleep. i think thats the shortest i've ever listened to an album, only had it in rotation for about 3 days. iww is nas second best album. with every album he made, he got worse, up until stillmatic, where he brought it back, but it's still not as good as his first 2. i have heard people say iww is classic, but thats only on the internet. if you were around when it first dropped, no one liked that shit. it was getting trashed by everyone. nas was my favorite mc back then, and i when i first heard that album, i was disgusted. i actually tried bringing it back to get another album, but they wouldn't let me return it. it grew on me over time, but its still not some amazing album. its good. nothing more, nothing less.

Smartass, if YOU were around when IWW dropped, you'd realize that most people loved the album, only the few fans (i was one) from Illmatic were disappointed.  You have to remember, Illmatic didnt even sell a 100,000 first week, and didnt go platinum until a few years ago.  NOt everyone was disappointed with IWW because many had not even heard of Illmatic.  WHen IWW dropped, i took it for what it was, and to me it is an incredible cd with a mixture of true hip hop and pop music.  Not many cds have combined both as well as nas did on this cd..........

I doubt Street Disciple is gonna be classic because it's 2 discs.
