what kinda laptop should i buy?
processor? (pentium 4, centrino, or amd athlon)
are toshibas any good cuz they're cheap as hell

toshibas are very nice. Just stay away from compaq or hewlett packards.

In my opinion Compaqs are the biggest piece of shit. My friend and my dad have one and they are junk, same with hewletts.

Centrinos are the best if you are looking for battery life. Centrinos have a lower clock speed, but are just as fast as P4. They work with low battery power. dont be mislead by their low clock speed (ie 1.4ghz) they do the job.

P4 imo are battery hoggers, but this wouldnt matter to me because i wouldnt care about battery life.

Amd would probably be my second choice from centrinos. They are inbetween P4 and centrino with battery life. Their clock speeds are also low but they do the job. If you get an amd make sure its at least a AMD Xp 2000.

Is battery life important to you?
What are you going to be using your laptop for?

Compaqs and hewis are junk because they have cheap parts inside of them. The case is built cheap. Lots of minor things happen to them that will piss you off.

If its for school then you really dont need a heavy duty chip. AMD or a moblie P4 would work.

If it was an AMD chip id suggest around 2200. They wont be that expensive. And as a side note, AMD laptop systems are alot cheaper, but they work just as good as pentium systems.
