SAN ANTONIO -- A 4-year-old boy is hospitalized and his 16-year-old sister is in juvenile custody after she allegedly fed him marijuana and alcohol.

Police say Jesse Rios was treated in the intensive care unit Wednesday night at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital for toxic ingestion and tremors after he ate a wad of marijuana the size of a quarter at a home in Texas. He has since been transfered to a private room.

The girl is being held in the Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of child endangerment, a felony. She will have a court appearance in 10 days to determine whether she will remain in juvenile custody.

4-year-old Jesse Rios was treated in the intensive care unit for tremors and toxic ingestion.

"I don't think there's any justification for it," said San Antonio police spokesman Gabe Treviņo. "We're not talking about another young, young child to another young child. This is an older teenager."

Child Protective Services spokeswoman Mary Walker said the agency removed three younger siblings from the home Thursday and put them in protective custody. Walker said CPS may also take the boy and his teenage sister into state custody.

Manuel Rios, the children's grandfather, said the incident was "just one of these freak things that happen. We can't say that no other kid will do it."

Rios also said the incident "is something that really hurts you physically and mentally, and this is an awakening call for all parents."

damn the same thing happened to me once.  except I wasn't a baby.  I was 16 years old.  and damn, now that I think about, the person who fed it to me was actually younger than me.  oh well, ya live, ya learn.
