computer file help
« on: August 16, 2004, 05:01:58 PM »
ok so I downloaded some songs, but it only let me save them as an html file.  so when I add a folder to winamp, these songs don't add, because they are not recognized as mp3's.  but they play just fine, if I add them myself.  how can I change them into a mp3 file?

rename them

rename it too "The exact same title of the song" Then add a .mp3 at the end.

You have to redownload them, and add .mp3 at the end of the file name this time.

Renaming doesn't always change the file type...When you download a file, make sure you add .mp3 at the end of the filename...That will create it as an mp3 file in the first place. I don't think there's any way to change it once it's been created as an html file.

If it only lets you download/save as .html, you can be 99% sure that the mp3-link is dead gone and redirects you to a .html page.
(Meaning that renaming won't help shit)

All hes saying is that his mp3 isnt classified as an mp3 file. Thats where my instructions come into play.

By simply just renaming the .xxx you can change the file type.

Are you retarded? He told you that doesn't work, and so did I...I just told you it only works on SOME computers...Some files can't be changed to an mp3, you have to create them as an mp3 by downloading it with .mp3 at the end of the filename...Shit.

Ok actually it does. "It only works on some computers" Ok, yea if your running mac or something, but this works for all versions of windows.

His problem was he had a song that played, but when he clicked on it, it was an html file. So all you have to do is rename the extension to .mp3 and then his music player would add that song to his playlist.

Open up a folder
Tools>Folder Options>View>"Uncheck" Hide extensions for known file types. This is under XP

ok thanks rampant, I had to do that ^^^^ above.  the songs were already named as songname.mp3 when I saved them, but they still saved as an html file.  they still played fine, its just they were known as an html file.  doing that above worked tho.  thanks.
