106 & park should dedicate a week to "bomb ass shit that the ignorant, fickle ass public slept on; and the bullshit ass hip-hop media hated on" and then i'll respect them.

All they play down here in NZ is commercial stuff so yeap, The Luniz are considered 1 hit wonders, them, Skee-Lo & maybe Souls of Mischief. The other singles, lol, besides TQ who has a couple of hits, haven't received any radio play here, prolly the same in Australia too.

I 2nd that. I missed that CD, shit, what I wouldn't do to get a copy of that ans Skee-Lo. I don't know, something about clean rap from when I was in Jr. High that I miss. Maybe because back then it was the only music I play loud through out the whole house.

Skee-Lo 's first album was the shit, no doubt. Apart from "I wish", there was "Superman"...one of the tightest songs I've ever heard. "Top of the stairs", "Never crossed my mind", "This is how it sounds"... What's fucked up is I never got a chance to hear "I can't stop", his 2nd album. Only the single "At the mall", which was dope too.

I just want to see what y'all would say about this...

This past week, 106 and park's old school joint of the days had a theme this week, bein one hit wonders. Well on Friday, the one hit wonder that they showed was Luniz, I got five on it.

Now bein that we are west coast, we know that they definitely aren't one hit wonders in our eyes, but to the rest of the nation who is only up on commercial rap, I guess they would be, even though they had a few other singles and all.

Since we see that they are considered 1 hitters by the nation, what other rappers from the west coast do you think are probably considered one hit wonders, even though they may not be to us?

-2nd II None - If you want it
-Hi-C - Puppet (somebody from St. Louis was talkin bout 1 hitters and he mentioned him)
-Militia - Burn
-Lady of Rage - Afro Puffs
-Skee-lo - I wish (well even we would call him a 1 hit wonder)
-Ahmad - Back in the days
-Soulfs of mischief - 93 til infinity (would u say they were to us?)
-LAD - Ridin Low (who remembers this track? you might only know about it if you aren't from LA)
-TQ - Westside (if it was a hit)
-Digital Underground - Humpty hump (some people do think they were one hitters)

ive only heard that digital underground song..

What about Freaks of the Industry? Same Song? Kiss Me and I'll Kiss You Back? Those songs got airplay and still do.

NWA--Straight Outta Cpt...cause you really didn't see much of the "Express Yourself" video being played.

Express Yourself got major airplay back in the day. F*ck The Police, while it didn't get radio play obviously because of the content, was the song that got them noticed. Gangsta Gangsta, another hit that I still hear on the radio occasionally. Don't forget Boyz in the Hood, even though it wasn't on Straight Outta Compton. And you forgot about their second album. Alwayz Into Something and Appetite for Destruction were the singles.

Ahmad's definitely a one hit wonder. Only had one album and one single. Luniz are a bit trickier. I guess nationwide they are considered one hit wonders but not locally. Its hard to label underground rappers. Technically, Mac Dre would be considered a no-hit wonder but here in the bay he had a lot of hits.

DU definitely had more than one hit.....and as for everyone else, yeah i guess all those pretty much were their only 'big mainstream' hits....thats not to say that some of them haven't had successful careers after these hits, cuz  sum still sell records and have huge followings (yuk, souls of mischief) but yeah, most are all one hitters....

There was a thread just like this some time back. Like i said the last time, from Luniz, i can say "I Got 5 On It" was their only real big mainstream hit.
(even my moms likes that song) So i think they can be considered as a" one hit wonder" by some people.

A hit is a hit regardless of whether it's on the radio or not. If it's part of the mainstream conscious, it's a hit. There are songs that aren't even singles that people recognize as hits such as diss records like "Ether" and "Takeover" or songs off "Life After Death" and "Doggystyle". "Fuck The Police" is unquestionably a hit record. If you go outside of the region that the group/artist is from and play the record in a room full of people and more than half the people know the words, it's a hit whether it was ever a gold or platinum single or not.

Strange...this thread is FIVE years old...I was searchin through old ones today to find info, and I read it, but didn't comment....so was someone able to see this as a "recently viewed post" to respond to it? If not, makes no sense to how someone responded to it five years later.
