Well I left L.A. last Saturday to start my third year of college at Florida A&M, and I talked to a lot of people this week. My college is predominately black, and it has people from every region and big city in America and even some outside.

I have been talkin to a lot of different people on my campus about different things, and these are some things I have seen and what I notice. One, almost everybody knows who Game is now. Even if many of y'all think Game was famous 3-4 months ago, he really wasn't on a mainstream scale until the video for Certified gangstas came out. Last semester when I told people who I work with, it was more of a "oh 4 real, who's he? Oh the guy in that video, ok" compared to now, it's "damn for real? Yeah Game is tite, I heard......"

I have some homeboys from NY, and they have known about Game for a while, because they are on that NY mixtape shit. They are definitely feelin him...however, one of my homeboys was pissin me off today when I was talkin to him. He was like "the only rapper y'all got is Game, ain't NOBODY else on the west about shit" and of course I spit him some names that he either never heard of (Sly Boogy) and I said Crooked I, and he was like "man crooked i ain't shit, he aint even as good as Camron" and I pretty much lost it then and started yellin at him. He hadn't really heard any of Crooked's shit, but from his attitude, it seemed like he was completely biased for NY shit, and kept sayin how LA doesn't have any tite rappers. Also....this same dude didn't even know who 213 was, and when I showed him the album he was like "when did they get together?" and was clueless on the history.

Now for those who wonder what the point of me sayin this is for, it's nothin really important, but I just think it's something that is interesting depending on how you look at it. Many people from outside the west are feelin Game, but it's mainly because of his east coast flow. Seein his attitude, it made me realize that he reflects how many people in NY feel. They like Game because of who he rolls with and his style, but that does not mean that people will all be checkin for new west coast music. Seein how he dissed Crooked I and didn't even know shit about him or anybody else on the west, it made me see how fucked up things are and how some people are biased as hell when it comes to rap.

So...I just hope that people will not only check for Game, but realize that we definitely do have talent, and this goes for consumers and record companies too.

Good post. I have a feeling that dude who said camron was better than crooked I is pretty much Joe average rap fan. Sad as it is, some people just don't realize what the west has to offer and aren't really looking for anything new to come out of the west. The way I see it, is that Game is like a Trojan horse. He's got the New York type flow, but his subject matter is pure westcoast IMO. This is like the best of both worlds. Hopefully people check for him, and realize that they've been writing the west coast off for no reason.

I think Game is a strong enough artist to keep the door open for some new westcoast acts like Snoop did for the Dogg pound, Biggie did for Junior Mafia, and 50 for G-unit etc. It's been mentioned in other posts, but it seems the way to do things is to have one "Big" artist come out, sell a bunch, then introduce his crew to the rest of the world, etc... Hopefully this will happen with Game.

Also don't write off Guerrilla Black and SpitFiya. They are both reppin Compton hard and I guess Guerrilla black has been getting radio play across the nation. Spitfiya is nice as well and he could bring some nice shit with interscope behind him and the right push. I really like his flow and hopefully he brings a hot album to the table.

Anyways, I'm just rambling on cause I'm drunk, but yeah. I hope game does big things for the west and brings the cycle back this way.

Yeah I guess thats the point, they like him because of who he rolls with. If talent was the only reason they would be checking for other shit on the West, like Crooked, Sly Boogy, Ras Kass (btw, its funny with Ras, everybody knows his name but they dont know his music). I think the majority of the people who know Game gonna watch his video and when his album drops buy it if they like it, but not check for other shit on the West. All they gonna do is just wait till more tight shit gets thrown in their face. I say people who are really into Hip Hop will check out what else is hot on the West, which will be around 20% of the consumers I say

^^^^Exactly...only the real rap music fans who care about the music/talent will check for other artists from the West. The others will just be interested in Game.

Since the old school, the west has always been open to new acts coming down here, and we get excited to see New York artist we respect, and open them to LA. In New York, you have to damn near kiss New York ass before they want to see you. The south has always supported both, I knew some people from Florida and they said that back in the days, they supported the west against the east. But since Hip-Hop was founded in the east, and the east has the more respect magz, that's the opinion people hear. And now that the south is running club music, and both east and west are struggling, I only see the east coming out of this one because that 8million sales in the New York is important to grap, and the west can never grap it. New York will get the 5million here, plus the 3million in the I.E. and the 3million in the O.C. But to get the east coast market to hard as hell. I really don't see a west coast resurgance with Xzibit, Game, Guerrila Black and Houston the same way New York had Nas, Biggie, Wu Tang and Tribe Called Quest. I hope it happens though, but east coast attitude is not willing to except west coast the same as west does east. Peace.

I feel you. I have seen Spit Fiya in person but I still haven't heard him rap. Personally, I don't like Guerilla, and if people in NY don't like Crooked I for whatever reason, they definitely won't like Guerilla because people in LA say he sounds like Biggie, and they will use that against us a whole lot. And I donno how true the rumors are that he's not even from Compton.
