Spike Lee is the greatest film maker of all time

Spike Lee is the greatest.  He's the thinking man's film maker.  If you watch one of his movies with your wife or one of your friends, you absolutely have to discuss and talk about the movie afterwards.  He says that a great deal of his inspiration in film making comes from music, you can tell, because his love for music permeates throughout his films.  His music is best for old school fans, he'll drop an old school jazz track, or hand over the whole soundtrack to Stevie Wonder (Jungle Fever) or Public Enemy (He Got Game) and it will all come out perfect.  Right when he's got you caught up in the climax, in the greatest moment of suspense, he'll drop the slooowwweesst, most solemn song you've ever heard.

He's a throwback, his films are always relevant to today's time's but they are always 'grown up' films, intellectual (Bamboozled), groundbreaking (Do the Right Thing), and often he'll hit you with a masterpiece (Malcolm X).  Even his worst movies (He Got Game, 25th Hour, Summer of Sam), you still don't regret watching, because it gave you a perspective on life that you may not have had before you went into the movie.  I'm saying this, and I still have only seen half of this man's movies.  I'll post up some of my favorites later.

greatest of all time i dunno.  Top 3 tho of his generation top 10 of all time.  the man is a genious.  Martin Scorsese is up there.  He is proberly who i would pick.  By the way you said S.O.S was one of his worst but it was good.  Personally i love S.O.S.  My dad told me that is exactly how it was in the 70's in nyc during that summer.  A lot of people affraid to leave the house.  Friends accusing friends an what not.

I don't think it was his best movie, but I still love "Summer of Sam".  Even his movies that aren't his best, I'll still find myself reflecting upon a certain aspect of the film years later.

Funny how you didn't list "She Hate Me" as one of his worst movies...Do you enjoy that film? I think it's a lot worse than the 3 movies you listed, which were good movies in my book.

Plus David Fincher is my personal favorite. All his movies shit on everything Spike Lee ever did . Seriously.. Alien 3. The Game. Se7en & Fight Club. Panic Room. Lmao, no director can compare his legacy to that quality-wise. Noone.
Christopher Nolan is a helluva newcomer. He's the only dude I can imagine to be up there with Fincher one time. Memento is a total masterpiece, and Insomnia is very, very good too. Pacino is terrific in this movie.. but I digress.

Spike Lee is up there. I have no clue where since I am not a big movie goer. But every movie I've seen with Spike Lee directing, I've fully enjoyed. So i can't argue, I just am not as interested. lol
