Jay-Z has teamed with production company @radical.media and Paramount Classics to release “Fade To Black,” a film that chronicles the rapper’s farewell performance as a solo artist at Madison Square Garden in November of 2003.
Jay-Z narrates the film, which takes viewers backstage during the concert and offers fans a chance to look at how the rapper’s last album was creatively conceived.
“I was on the biggest stage in the world, with some of the biggest stars in music, and we pulled off the perfect night,” Jay-Z said. “This was the ultimate dream growing up in Brooklyn. I went from Marcy to Madison Square.”
Fade To Black features Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, R. Kelly, Foxy Brown, ?uestlove, Pharrell Williams and includes appearances from Dame Dash, Rick Rubin, Slick Rick, P. Diddy and others.
Jay-Z is executive producing the flick under his Marcy Projects Productions along with John Meneilly, Frank Scherma and Jon Kamen.
“This film captures the power and excitement of the on-stage performance and Jay-Z’s creation, commitment and dedication to his craft,” @radical’s Kamen commented.
“Fade To Black” was directed by Pat Paulson and Michael John Warren.
@radical’s credits include the Academy Award winning documentary “Fog of War” and the multi-platinum “Concert for George,” which celebrated the memorial of George Harrison and a feature on rockers Metallica.
“Fade To Black” hits theaters nationwide on November 5th, 2004.

This should be a joke. The one aspect or hip hop that is light years behind on of every other type of mainstream music is the live performance, and they want people to pay the price of a movie ticket to se this? Yeah right. I wouldn't pay the price of a movie ticket to see Jay live at a concert, and neither would millions of others, so there is now ay they're gonna pay to see video clips of him live. I predict a box office failure. It may not lose money, but it won't make much. Rappers really need to start creating cult following in their live shows. That's where the money is. If some rapper were to come out and learn how to perform in front of a mass crowd, then he'll be the most successful rapper of all time., of course he'd have to have the hits as well.
