We Fly High

HOLY MOTHERFUCKING SHIT. all i gotta say is Doggystylin and anyone in LA, you missed out BIG TIME. so the show was scheduled at the House of Blues Sunset strip for a 11pm jumpoff with the Crown City Rockers, an oakland hip hop group opening for the headliner Mos Def. Chali 2na from jurassic 5 comes out and introduces the Crown city rockers, so they come out at 11pm, do a few tracks. their pretty sick cos they use live instruments, and the group is very diverse. asian girl, white guy, black guy. they bring out Scarub from the living legends crew to do a few tracks...

the venue is pretty small, so the concert is pretty intimate. anyways the concert headlines only listed Mos Def.. I was kinda expecting Kweli, cos he usually shows up for the rare times that mos def actually does do show. but i wasnt expecting any other guests.. little did i know what lay ahead of me.

around 12:15AM midnight, MOS DEF comes out to stage wearing black sunglasses and a black hat with a bandana around his motuh like the album cover. he's also wearing a bathrobe (ghostface style) with no shirt underneath it, and wore old loafer shoes (haha kweli was dissin mos cos of those shoes)...shit looked hella funny, mos def rappin all with his bare chest out and shit, haha hella LL style... anyways he does a few tracks off his new album, and then motherfuckin TALIB KWELI comes out also with a bandana around his mouth. they do a bunch of blackstar tracks like definition, and some others, and then they start Respiration, but cut it off after like 30 seconds of the music playing. and then he said I'll save that one for later.. and then fucking COMMON comes out also wearing a fuckin bandana around his mouth, and he came out hype as fuck. the three of them did Respiration together, which was truly a sight to see. I didnt think that it could get any better after this... and then they fuckin bring out KANYE WEST. omygod. too ridiculous. they all start busting all the collaborations they have between the four of them. they did like Get em High with all the verses from kanye common and talib, they did two wrods with kanye and mos, Sunshine with kanye and mos. and a shitload others.. i cant even remember them. what was hella sick was that Common, kanye and talib stayed on stage with Mos throughout the entire show..they didnt just show up to do their one guest feature and leave.  Will.I.Am from the Black eyed Peas was also doing the drums for the show. Mos did like Umi Says, Ms Fat Booty, Whats Beef, Hip Hop, Sex Love and Money, Ghetto Rock, Sunshine, and some other songs .. kinda forgot the rest. the mos performance was about 2 hours, and we were probably out by 2:15AM which is pretty damn late for a show on Monday night. but yeah... seeing Mos, Kanye, Talib and Common on stage together at the same time all rappin seriously gave me sensory overload. too much to handle. haha..

what was hella funny before was when picking up my will call tickets, i see Anthony Anderson leaving the house of blues.. (the fat black guy from romeo must die, kangaroo jack, and that movie with method man, and chris moltessanti from the sopranos.. like "fathers day " or some shit like that..

and then after the show i go to Mels 24 hour diner, and the first person i see in the booth is fucking AJ from bet's 106 and park.. i was like what the fuck. i walked in, and the person sitting closest to the door is fucking AJ. seeing all these people in one night tripped the shit outta me.

this was my second time seeing mos def perform..my fourth  time seeing Common perform, fifth time seeing Kweli perform, and fifth time seeing Kanye west perform.

but my first time with all four together :)

anyways, this show has got me hyped for the upcoming shows, and has definitely put me back into concert mood. the roots on halloween? ... im definitely hiting up nas on sunset on nov 19th..

Ok, thats kinda what happens we me most of the time, so I just go to concerts myself and then make friends with people at the concerts. I'm not gonna miss out on a dope concert just because my friends don't like the same music.

UP! With Pics Now!!

doggystylin... well mos def probably isnt going to be around in LA for a long time, at least not headlining his own show. maybe show up as a guest here and there.. talib comes around pretty frequently. you'll be able to catch him in LA like every few months. i heard he does something like 150 shows a year or some shit. Theres a reason that i've seen him five times.  Kanye.. he was in La during February all stars weekend, and for some stops during the dropout tour.. but most recently ive heard is hes doing that tour with usher. i dunno, i think hes done performing his material until he gets a new album out. Common, ive been waiting on him for a long time. Since moving to santa barbara about 1.5 years ago, i dont think commons had a show in the LA area.. at least not to my knowledge, correct me if im wrong. hes probably waiting for his new album BE to drop.
