Jackson's book has had a splashy debut, but not everybody's scurrying to the bookstore to secure a copy. Jackson's book has irritated some members of the NBA fraternity, and they're not all named Bryant. To some, Jackson violated a code of silence and secrecy by revealing what transpired behind closed doors. "It's garbage as far as I'm concerned," Cleveland Cavalier Coach Paul Silas said. "We always talk about the locker room being sacred; there's certain things you don't talk about." Cleveland center Scott Williams, part of three championship teams while playing for Jackson in Chicago, also was surprised. "It seems like a little bit of a low blow from Phil," Williams said. "He's always handled himself with class as a coach. He's always the first to say things should be internalized, kept inhouse. Now that he's outside the circle and wants to sell a book, he seems to be taking the low road." Darwin Mosley from Detroit was quoted in the L.A. Times saying, "Gee, you'd think Phil Jackson would have found some way to pin the high gas prices on Bryant as well."

Meanwhile, the Lakers improved to 6-2 and secured their first winning exhibition season since 1998. They went 3-5 last season and were never better than 4-4 in exhibition play in their three championship seasons under Phil Jackson.

In other news, in an NBA survey of the leagues 30 general managers, 81% said they would want Bryant to be the player to take a shot with a game on the line. All 30 general managers thought Bryant was the best shooting guard in the league.

what's amazing though..

how can a team with

1) the by far best center

2) the by far best shooting guard

3) the best coach

get raped by a team that has no superstar at all and a coach with like zero titles in the finals?

just a thought.

shit happens. I mean, it made for a good story, a no name team won the title from the glory Lakers, and a player who's never been an all-star was MVP, against a team with 4 future hall of famers. It's just one of those things that people will remember, and have great memories from. As a Laker fan, I wanted more, but at the beginning of the playoffs, I said the only team I think that could be the Lakers were the Pistons, and I knew Detroit had what it took to make up for what it lacked in terms star power. The Lakers egos eventually killed them, and the Pistons team ball won the title. I may not like it, but I do respect it.

Now fuck last year, it's a new Laker team, and if Butler can play like his rookie season, Odom gets his rhythm in the offense, and Divac and Grant are healthy, you are looking at easily the Pacific Division champions. Put money on it.

as far as winning power, we'll have to wait and see....cuz the lakers 99-04 had winning power but didn't always play could team ball. but this laker team definately is flowing, i mean i know it's only preseason but the way they're flowing and winning games is a far cry from how terrible they'd be

That's it, and that's what it comes down to. Kobe can be a good player all he wants as long as he cant carry the new team.

I dont what to consider the pre-season. Retarded teams achieved many W's, wont happen in the regular season lol.
It's going fucking down. Soon.

Detroit vs Lakers proved 2 things, imo:

1) No matter how talented is the team: if you play good D and you play as a team, you can win. But Italian National Team proved the same things, man! Have you seen Europeans? And Olympics? No matter if you have 5 All Stars in your team, or NBA players (talking about Italy or Puerto Rico, for example).. it's all up to defence and team alchimy.

2) Having Shaq in your team doesnt necessary mean you will win something.

So obviously Lakers looks wacker than last year, but still it's all up to HOW they play, not WHO does play. You know what i mean? I will never say Lakers is a contender this year, cause it isnt, but still let's wait. Last time i predicted something "easy" in the NBA.. Detroit almost swapt Lakers and Italy almost won the Olympics! So..

I think Lakers are easily contenders...They're considered the fourth best team in Vegas when you bet on them.

Add another to the list...

Former Laker assistant coach Tex Winter sprinkled throughout Jackson's tell-all book but said he hadn't read it. Most notably, Jackson wrote of Winter and Shaq exchanging harsh words during a film session after Game 2 of the Finals last season. Winter, 82, with a slight grimace, said he was unsure about locker-room material being publicized. "Anything that happens in that warrior room stays in that warrior room, but he felt like it should be told," Winter said... :-\
