John Frusciante - The Will To Death
« on: November 04, 2004, 09:42:38 AM »
Anybody hear this album? It's pretty good, actually it's pretty great. Kind of reminds me of Cat Stevens or James Taylor. It's a lot softer than the Peppers stuff, but it's good softer. Since he's like ten years younger than the rest of the band, I think he realizes his career will not be over when their's is. It think we are due for a huge solo effort by Frusciante. It's been a long time since the pop world has seen a good singing guitar man, and John Frusciante could be it.

I (obviuously, look below) love John Frusciante's music, he's one of my favorite guitarists around, but i haven't heard this particular album. The ones I've heard/I own are "Shadows Collide With People", "Niandra Lades & Usually Just A T-Shirt" and "To Record Only Water For Ten Days", which are all great IMO. He's gotten off the heroin, but his stuff still sounds like it at times lol...however i think he is great at what he does and he combines the more conventional elements in his songs and the experimental, loopy and strange stuff very well. As a singer he's not that great,  but good enough and i like the way he delivers his lyrics alot. So yeah, I'm hoping for him to continue his solo career for years to come...glad somebody else on here listens to him

I figured you'd respond. I actually looked around the forum first to see if you already posted this album. His singing is actually pretty good on this album. He displays a different range of styles in his voice this time around. I mean he's no Elvis, but he's definately better than any pop punk guys, Mos Def, or Andre 3000. The bottom line is he's good enough. He's actually going for 6 albums in 6 months. This is his second one. The first was Shadows, and the third just came out, but it's only a 4 song EP. There's 3 more on the way. He's been working in a studio with a drummer and he said that they've laying down tracks so fast and so good on first recording that he can release albums one afer the other.

yeah that sounds. i never made a john frusciante topic on here ande seems like not many people really care for him, many prolly don't know who he is. But I guess I'm getting this one too, this guy got me hooked. And he is a better singer than Andre and Mos and I dare say he's a better musician too

Dare say? LOL. He's light years ahead of Mos and Andre could ever be combined, as far as musicianship goes. I'd like to see John vs Andre in guitar battle. He was a huge contributer to the Pepper's sound. Listen to the RHCP stuff with out John, and then listen to it with John. Huge difference. The guy is fucking musical, and a hell of a lyricist too. He just doesn't get the credit he deserves.

John and Andre in a guitar battle? Are you serious?  Andre's just a self-taught musician who knows a few chords and scales on a guitar, Frusciante is a guitar virtuoso, it's not even in the same ballpark.  That's like saying you'd like to see Elton John Vs. Andre just because Andre knows how to play piano.  One's an amatuer who knows a little bit about everying, and one's an amazing musician who knows everything about his instrument.

lol, you didn't notice the slight irony in my post or that statement respectively. Of course Frusciante shits all over Mos and Andre
Frusciante is a guitar virtuoso, an amazing musician who knows everything about his instrument.
yup.

And RHCP were/are def tighter with John Frusciante, but I like Navarro and "One Hot Minute" too...ain't the same tho

Navaro did "Aeroplane", though... but Frusciante did "Under the Bridge" which is very well written, so yeah, him over Navaro easy.

When I said Andre vs John in a guitar battle I meant it sarcastically. lol. Obviously it'd be a one sided competition.

He's got 4 of the 6 already out. There's one coming this or next month, and then another following that one. This is the best work ethic I've ever seen. #

Inside of Emptiness
DC - EP (this one only has 4 songs)
Automatic Writing
The Will To Death

All are great. I haven't heard Automatic writing yet, but I can't imagine it being any worse.

yeah, i'll check out Inside Of Emptiness & Automatic Writing too...can't spend all my CD money on Frusciante though, as much as i love his music...but as for that EP, it's got 4 songs and i've seen it for the same price they sell all full-length CD's...are those tracks very long or is the whole duration just like 15 minutes? Cause then it kinda is alot (to pay), John Frusciante or not
