Fuck Hot 97.... They ain't play no good westcoast music

They have a thread about Snoop, and so fuck it, we making a thread about the west. Where are Sly Boogie songs, hell Sly Boogie was played in Minnesota when I was there. They didn't put Suga Suga on their playlist, they didn't play Kam, and this summer Kam was all over at least the local I.E. station Wild 96 here in San Bernardino. Do they play Quik and Nate Dogg, do they play Guerrilla Black. Here in the west, we've always respected the east. Even when the west was big in the earily 90's, Gangstarr, Black Sheep, Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Biggie, Wu Tang, De La Soul, Eric B and Rakim, Boogie Down Productions and later just KRS-One, they all had huge Power 106 play. Shit, but the Least Coast never treated us the same. Now I still got love for east artist, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Nas, Dead Prez, Immortal Technique, I can't hate, they are my favorite artist out right now. But the Least Coast DJs are fucking up the rotation, they don't want to play us, I beat they don't even play Hey Now by Xzibit. I say next time the west coast shine, we say fuck the east on our radio stations. It may hurt for me, but my favorite artist fron New York ain't even on NY radio, so why should I care if they are on LA stations.

While you point is half valid, there isn't anything coming out of the west that a NY radio station is going to play on a regular basis. The new Xzibit single is terrible, and doesn't really deserve play anywhere. The people coming out with good music on the west are in the same position as the people making good music in NY, their labels don't have enough clout to get them played consistantly on Hot 97. It would prehaps be fairer to say, why aren't any west coast artists on big labels, because that has more to do with their lack of NY radio play than anything else.

Dude, NY has 8 million people, that's a huge market. If the west sold well in the east, that would mean higer sales. Of course we care what goes on in the east. Do you want to ignore 8 million potential buyers. I know I wouldn't. Shit.

It's all politics. I know artists personally in tha west that send their shit 2 radios out there. But they ain't on a major. So who are they gonna play? a non-major East Coast act or West? That's all it comes down to. It's like this 4 them, we got The Federation who have great radio singles and are on a major (Virgin), but they still don't get played. It's like if they have 10 songs to play, they gone play 7 of their own shit, then 3 of the cats that broke em off wit money.

But see....when they don't play a #1 hit like "drop it like it's hot", then U know damm well they're hating. The DJ's on Hot97 are known to be shady characters. They can or break an artist out there, they control the East pretty much. Some people may think Radio ain't really shit because they kick it wit hip hop heads, but U gotta understand, out of the 3 million people buying majority of these albums, only like 10% is hip hop heads.

They played his shit here for about a week or two because he had a concert at the Quest, then he magically disappeared. He had to pay out the ass for that promotion. That's the only reason he was on the radio here. B96 only plays top 40 unless you come with some skrill. On every radio station coast to coast, if you are not a big artist, it is pay to play.

It must have been two weeks, 'cause they played him my mast two weeks then. I didn't know about his concert. Oh well, and I know about B96. I don't even consider it a hip-hop station. I found a mix CD of some wack ass shit, and called it my B96 mix. I play it for girls... lol.

It's funny cause the first year they did their broadcast, they had absolutely NO DJs or commercials. All they did was play music and it was actually good music. Then, they started playing the Timbaland remix of an NSync song and it all went downhill. It's like that with all stations. The big money is only there if you play music for the clubs and the charts. Exactly what clearchannel and radio one does, who happened to buy B96 after the first year. I just wish more artists I like would come here and do a concert so I can hear some more good music.
