EAzy E/NWA documentary on radio - links
« on: December 04, 2004, 10:56:07 AM »
This week the Bay Area's KPFA's daily Hard Knock Radio show teamed up with LA Rapstar and KKBT radio personality The Poetess to air an incredible radio documentary that she put together that celebrates the life and times of NWA founder Eazy E. The documentary is called 'Rags to Ruthless'

Poetess who has an incredible archive of original interviews explained that she wanted to celebrate Hip Hop history month by giving listeners some insight into the true origins of NWA. This is brilliantly laid out by Dr Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Yella and Eazy E from interviews Poetess had conducted over back in the late 80s / early 90s when the group first formed.

In this documentary you get to hear from Eazy and Dr Dre about how the pair first met. What they say contradicts many of the widely written reports about their first encounters. You get to hear directly from all the group members about their break up and the reasons that led up to it. You get to hear how the group patched their differences together and were planning to do a reunion album. You also get to hear how they felt about the FBI attacking them and how local police agencies forced concert venues to ban the @#%$ tha Police song. Listeners are also treated to hearing about the plot by white supremacist and the KKK to assassinate NWA members. The stories are incredible.

Poetess also wanted to help increase awareness about the devastation being wrecked upon the community via HIV and AIDs. She noted that Eazy E was the first prominent Hip Hop figure to die of the disease and that his passing served as a major wake up call for the Hip Hop community.

Listeners are left at the edge of their seats as Poetess culls interviews from LA's Hip Hop community including Greg Mack, Julio G, Above the Law as well as NWA members just to name a few who speak about Eazy contracting the disease just days before and right after Eazy E's untimely passing.

Poetess noted that out of all the radio documentaries she's done over the years.. This was her proudest work yet..

The Poetess has a HISTORY in west coast rap. I used to talk to her a lot back in 2000. She was part of the 5 Footaz, part of their success. She keeps her business on the downlow.
