To All Laker Haters
« on: December 26, 2004, 11:10:29 AM »
I wonder why you guys trip off the Lakers and their fans so much. This is a westcoast hip-hop board, basketball and hip-hop go hand and hand now a days, and a lot of us are from Southern California, meaning that we grew up watching Laker basketball from the days of Magic and Kareem, to Nick Van Exel and Eddie Jones, to Shaq and Kobe. I have watched Lakers basketball since Magic and Kareem, doing hook shots in my neighbors basketball court and practicing my passes on the elementry playground. I think you'd expect some Laker fans on a westcoast hip-hop based board. I mean, dissing the Lakers here, wouldn't that be as pointless as going to a wrestling fan board and dissing The Rock, or Steve Austin. I mean, you can have a difference of opinion, you can root for others, but dissing the Lakers on a westcoast board is pointless, and shows you have no life if your main goal in life is to diss a basketball team on a board full of their fans.

I know the Lakers lost yesterday, but it was a very close game, and it lived up to all the hype, which honestly, is way better than I thought for the Lakers. Wade won the game as after Shaq left the game the Lakers look like how they had been playing instead of playing like they played that game. I can stomach this, the Lakers of 2004-2005 are WAY better than the Lakers of 1991-1993 when the Lakers first lost Magic but still had Worthy. Once Odom finds his way next to Kobe, and starts attacking the rim like we know he can, and Butler starts getting points more regularly, we will be fine. It's a matter finding a rhythm, finding a groove and learning to play together. We are a real point guard short (too bad we can't get Baron Davis to come home to LA) and we are a western title contender.

Once Magic got HIV it was a wrap for the Lakers.

You guys make a BIG deal about a game. Then when the lakers lose, and you hear some criticism..it's called hating? I actually expect Lakers to make the playoffs, hell I got Kobe Bryant on my Fantasy team (thats whooping some dubcc ass :D).  Those two paragraphs you just made are pretty pointless though (and i read em  :-\).

I don't really see much hating of the lakers on the board anywayz. ???

it's not just about the game. The game IMO went way better than I thought it would from a Lakers point of view. I just haven't posted my opinion on the Lakers lately, mainly 'cause I've been really busy with the Holidays, so I'm reading all these Lakers post, and I gotta respond to these people that sound like they are dissing my team that I've rooted for since I was 8 doing hook shots and screaming Kareem Abdul Jabbar at the top of my lungs... lol. I always was like, why the hate from Europeans when this is a board about Westcoast rap, and Westcoast culture. And if anyone follows LA Hip-Hop, and LA sports, they'd know the Lakers are important to both.

3 titles since, and rebuilding with the best player in the NBA today doesn't say that at all.

Sorry but i find those kind of posts pretty stupid. Since Shaq has proven nothing without Kobe, and Kobe has proved nothing without Shaq, we can only judge them when their careers are over, not now. Miami is no doubt a better team than Lakers is, but Kobe is still so damn good that he scored 42 against Heat to send the game in OT. When everybody and their moma was expecting 42 points and a +20 points win by Heat. Lakers are still a very young team, who changed everybody but Kobe and a couple of bench players from last year, and who still gotta have quality minutes from Divac, Grant (he suffered a lot of small injures) and George, and who's building the team to win in 2007, not in 2005. Heat are a team built to win NOW. It's a NOW or NEVER situation. Completely different. It's like comparing Clippers to San Antonio.

I feel Lost Angel's post.

I love the Lakers, I grew up in Southern California watching them, shit I still remember Norm Nixon and Bob McAdoo. I'll be a Laker fan for life.

As a kid, every Laker game was an event. I remember the hatred I had for the Celtic green. Hating the Celtics became a sport in and of itself and when they finally beat the Celtics in 1985, that's one of the happiest moments of my childhood. That was huge. Damn I still remember practicing the hook shot and trying to do Magic Johnson's behind the back passes.

I stuck with them when they were losing during the 90's when everyone switched up and became Bulls fans. When they won in 2000, it pissed me off seeing all these Bulls fans become Laker fans again. They had no right to root for the purple and gold. Fuck a bandwagoner, be real to this shit, in good times and lean times.

Now is a time will test the will of every die hard Laker fan. Our team has been destroyed by a selfish bastard named Kobe Bryant. Despite the fact that this cancer that has nearly destroyed my beloved team, I will always represent for the purple and gold.

Laker fan for life.

^^I wouldn't even go as far as saying the Heat are that much of a better team...By the end of the season, we'll see.

Naw, i mean Heat are a team built to win the title. It's their one and only goal for this season. They destroyed their salary cap for the next 5-6 years just to win a title in the next 2 years, possibly now. They've traded 2 young promising players like Butler and Odom just to win now. If they dont win, they are a destroyed team who will look exactly like the Lakers in 2 years. No, worse.. cause Shaq will get older (and his contract will get even bigger).

Lakers are a team built do free cap room for the 2007 season. All the trades Mitch did he did them not to win in 2005, but to have free cap room in 2007. To get a good FA. Lakers only goal is to make the Play Offs, possibly winning one round.

So they cant be compared. Lakers never started as a contender for the title like Miami did. Kobe never promised his fans a ring like Shaq did in Miami. So what's the point comparing those two teams and those two guys? They got different goals. Kobe is winning his own goal, having a pretty decent record for his Lakers, and having an MVP-caliber season. Shaq got the best record in the East, and has a team who can win the title. Let's wait till the end of the season, like Nick said, to check who's right and who's not. And let's wait for the end of their careers to see who's better and who's not.

Let's stop this bullshit trashtalk.
