Game's album reminded me just how dope the West Coast is....
« on: January 08, 2005, 01:36:15 PM »
The production, the lyrical imagery, hard core- gangsta hip-hop that goes down smooth in the Cali sunshine... it's been a long time... The Game and Dre are leading the way, now it's up to the other West Coast artists to follow the lead.

I wouldn't even call this a "westcoast" album.  Dre did a good job with it because it's appealing to people on the eastcoast (just blaze production), midwest (kanye production), south (the 808 kit on "How we do"), and it isn't alienating the westcoast.  It's an all around jam.  Albums like this won't bring the west back.  It will bring more attention to the west, but it won't bring it back.

1 album can't bring the west back.  The most it can do is set the stage for others in the west to follow, and if they don't, the west won't come back.

Dre set the stage with 2001, he basically invented a new sound for hip hop, but not enough people followed.  Nobody copied him.  Back in the mid 90's, everyone was doing Gfunk, thats why the west was on top.

1 - people need to stop with all that 'oh its not west coast, he got east coast producers on there'. if the artist is from the West then the album is West Coast. maybe not the West that you want (G-Funk) but reguardless

2 - stop with all the Game threads!!!!!!!!!!!! i dont know why everyone feels its necessary to make multiple threads about the same topic but keep it in 1.

I wouldve liked for Dre to have done more tracks, but it definitely has more of a west coast feel than Snoop's last 2 albums...

Not necessarily G-Funk, Dre's "2001" had an extremely west coast sound to it, really cant get more west coast than that, but wasnt no G-Funk on it, and it appealed to over 6 million people. I say it cause its what I expected from Games album. With all his talk "Im bringing CA" back etc. I dont blame him or anyone at Aftermath though, I like the album it has a nice vibe to it.

You can argue about it not having the west coast flare n shit, but this will be a plus for the West no matter what.
