Overated Albums
« on: January 17, 2005, 06:19:55 AM »
Whats the most overated album(s) in hip-hop.

From the West Coast I have to say its:

Warreng G - Regulate...G Funk Era - Its a good album but very overated. People put this album on the same position as The Chronic or Doggystle but i dont think it can match up. This album had wonderful smooth beats and Regulate is one of the best songs ever but Lyrically this was just an average album.

From the East Coast I have to say its...

Nas - Illmatic - Its a good album and Nas is a very good rapper but many people consider this the best album ever but i dont think so.

I don't put it on the same position as Chronic or Doggystyle.

I put it above.

Overrated? All those Prophet said.

The Chronic is overrated. 2001 is overrated. Rhythm-al-ism is overrated. Uncle Sam's curse is overrated. Any Jay-Z. The new Twista. Any Outkast. Lots.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin
