I don't really know how I have to start this thread, so I'll just give an example:

Back in 1998 TQ released his first solo single Westside. It blew up like a motherfucker and it's one of the biggest hitsingles from the West Coast. TQ's second single Bye Bye Baby very explicit lyrics and MTV in the States didn't play the song. In Europe though, MTV did play the video and Bye Bye Baby became even a bigger hitsingle than Westside.
This is why TQ has more fans overseas than he does in the States. In America people only know TQ from Westside, but most of the people don't know who sang it. In Europe people actually do know who sang Bye Bye Baby.
If they had chosen a different second single, for example I Get Around, TQ could have been really big in Europe _and_ in the States. Maybe he wouldn't have had as much success with that single in Europe as he had with Bye Bye Baby, but in the States he'd definately have had a 2nd hit single and Sony would have been more motivated to promote its artist.

Should artists choose different songs to release as singles in different parts of the world? As shown in the example above in Europe it doesn't matter if the lyrics of the song are explicit, but in America it does. What are your thoughts about this?

I WOULD ASK MTV what Single they would want me to release, MTV has the most power in the industry, so i would let them choose the poppiest tracks or whatever just to make my money

They probably should since theres different demands for music in each part of the world. It would be too costly for the record labels though.

another example is oasis, their single "wonderwall" blew the fuck up, the next signle they chose was Champegne supernova, and because of the line "were were you wile we were getting high" either was banned or just didnt get popular, and their success never rose that high again...
