As for hardcore punk, iīm not really into it either (when it comes to punk i prefer the poppier stuff cause itīs more musical), but you could try out bands like Raised Fist, Snapcase, Against All Authority, The Exploited, Refused etc. But as said, Iīm more into stuff like Green Day, Descendents or Lagwagon, some punk fans disrespect that shit and it definitely ainīt hardcore, but to me itīs just more interesting, musicallyI'm not at all into pop punk. It's not really punk to begin with. The Refused are awesome, though. I scream like their lead singer. He pretty much influenced my vocals.

He pretty much influenced my vocals.that "real punk" thing reminds me of the "real" hiphop thing...itīs stupid. Technically, Green Day and Lagwagon do make a kind of rock music that classifies as punk, whatever their relation to punk culture is. The Descendentsī influence on a lot of punk music is undeniable. All Iīm saying is that I do know bands who make harder stuff, but most of it is musically even more simple than the pop punk stuff already is....Refused are good, only i personally prefer singing over yelling and shouting. But AAA for example, some of their music is alright, but you cannot claim itīs very challenging to write those compositions. If you like it itīs cool, but i get bored from it. Iīm glad there are poppier bands like Green Day, because "Dookie" is just one of the most entertaining albums in my pretty large CD collection, whether itīs "really punk" or not, "Warning" was interestingly different and I even like how they completly desisted from "punk" however you define it and made "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams". That song is great and musically beyond 99% of those hardcore bands. But like I said, HC punk can be cool and itīs cool if you like it, only i hate it when some HC punk fans bash the poppier stuff (not talking about you now) to demonstrate how "real" they are, ignoring the music itself. Very similar to those stubborn, narrow-minded hiphop underground heads...to each his own
metallica rules, check out reloaded for some tight jams
yeah definitely check out the Mars Volta. Another band i'd check out is Sigur Ros if i were u, it's some great shit, a lot like Godspeed. Bjork's new album is some heavy shit. Check out Dream Theater, they're a great band. NIN's "the Fragile" is a good album also.
Seriously. I am in those circles, and I can tell the difference between pop punk and punk. There is just so much. And I am far from close minded. It's just how it is. Punk is more than just power chords or conventional time signatures. And who cares if it's simple? Rap is even more simpel than punk. If it sounds good, it's good. And how many pop punk bands can claim to have the the most important and innovative guitarist of their decade? Black Flag can, and they're a hardcore band. With free-jazz and heavy metal elements. It's fine you like those bands. I don't care. It's just that they are not punk. Except ofr the Descendents. Sure they're poppy. But so were the Ramones. Being catchy or not doesn't have to do anything with being punk or not.Also. Punk without shitty production and a lot of guitar feedback just wouldn't be punk. It's like metal without distorted guitars. Punk has to be dirty and chaos to be punk. Just like computer music (like, let's say, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Paul Lansky) needs computers.
Anyway. To anyone who did not know yet. I was member of this forum more than a year ago or something. One of my screennames was Whenimondamic. In case anyone remembers me.
