Is a 20 year old age limit good for the NBA?
« on: February 23, 2005, 02:19:49 PM »
They were sayin on ESPN.com that they're thinking of changing the age limit to 20. So no more highschoolers coming straight into the NBA.

I personally don't like this, but I see why they would put an age limit up. So we wont have immature NBA players getting themselves into trouble...but sometimes players like Lebron, Garnett, Kobe etc come along blow people away and show more class than their older teammates (well, maybe not Kobe LOL).

Thoughts?

Oh and I found this on ESPN, the awards of the NBA all-star game http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/050223

The Vince Neil Award for "Worst comeback"
Did anyone else notice that the NBA brought back the same four events for All-Star Saturday as the ones that fizzled in Los Angeles last year? Back by unpopular demand! If they don't incorporate H-O-R-S-E or a Teammate Halfcourt Shot within the next five years, I'm going to take somebody in the NBA office hostage.

By the way, I was complaining to my friend Matt about this, only because he works for the NBA and I'm always trying to brainwash NBA employees to listen to my ideas, just in case they run into David Stern in a men's room or something and say, "Hey David, heard a great idea ... " Anyway, when I mentioned my idea for Teammate Halfcourt Shot -- two teammates trying to make as many halfcourt shots as possible in 90 seconds, as a thinly-veiled excuse to get some of the superstars involved in a Saturday event -- Matt shook his head and said that it was ridiculous. That led to this exchange:

Me: You're telling me that if Shaq and Wade needed to make five halfcourt shots in 90 seconds to beat Duncan and Ginobili for the title, you would turn the channel before they started shooting?

Matt (thinking): Well, no. Of course not.

lol, they should do that

so, you leave highschool at 17, goto uni/college, duno how it works in the US or whatever but here normal degrees last for 4 years atleast. so you wanna goto the NBA at the earliest age, (which is 20) and would be .. 3 years into your degree. do you goto the NBA cause its your dream, or stay at uni/college for another year cause you already wasted 3?

they should leave the age limit as it is

The only high school player in recent years to come straight out and dominate is LeBron.  The others, like Jermaine O'Neal, Garnett, Kobe, and T-Mac took two or three years to get to a good level.  Just think if they went to college for two years, until they were twenty, and then came up...there games would be at a much higher level and it would make the college game a little better.

But, for everyone that does good and becomes a star, you have another twenty each year that don't do shit.

I dont think that playing at college level would give them the same kind of experience as playing in the NBA for two years.  It might take them 4 or 5 years to get to the level that it took them 2 yo 3 years.

The word limit alone makes it wrong. Dismissing adults because of their age... sick. What's next, affirmative action in the NBA? Kwame is nothing but a truly overrated youngstar. Fuck his opinion, he's frustrated. Imagine LeBron had to stay in college for the last 2 years, how would that be?

there sould be NO LIMIT

-what if they suffer a carreer ending injury in college....they're done all that talent and hard work went down the drain without nothing to show for it other than a letterman jacket from Highschool

-if you're good enough to play why not do it. Most of the best players in the league came straight out of Highschool... Kobe Garnette James Amare

like someone said before me....you shouldn't put set limits for people who are legally adults
