Should I do an album?

Even though I stopped rappin back in 2000-2001, I have always wanted to do an album that would be entirely produced by me, and would feature a list of rappers throughout it. The overall concept has changed a few times, but it would basically follow the same format...all my beats, some rappers on 3-4 songs, some just on one. I have been buildin my connections lately and I am in contact with many of the best unknown rappers in LA, as well as some that are somewhat established, so I would definitely get as many of them on it as possible. I'd probably use some songs for people I've produced for and that they used on their albums. I wasn't gonna try to shop it to anybody, and I was probably gonna sell it for real cheap, because I'm not concerned about the money from it. I would prolly try to get it in most local stores in LA, and have it on the internet, but still make it cheap as hell just so people wouldn't mind spendin a few on it.
So I got a few questions for y'all...
1. Would you be interesting in hearing an album like this, that sounded somewhat like a compilation because of the variety of artists but had the same overall sound on it because of only one producer doin it?
2. I am mainly doing it for promotion of me and the artists on it, and not for the money. So would you say it would be smart to put up all the tracks on the internet, or even just put a good 5-6 on there plus snippets? Otherwise, what price would you say is good for this kind of project?
3. I am sure that some artists would stand out more than others on here. So if you heard an artist on here that you were feelin, would you honestly make an effort to hear more of their stuff, or would u just say "that cat is hot" and leave it at that?
Also, if anybody has any questions for me about it, let me know.

personally i would like to hear your beats, and you can use that to promote yourself as you said, also promoting other talented LA artists. and if the artists are hot, i would listen to everything i can get my hands on.

1.sorry i wouldnīt be interested coz iīve heard a gang of albums like that and 9/10 it just comes out forced(Alchemist 1st Infantry is a good example of that). iīrather hear you do an entire album with just 1 rapper coz thatīs something that i miss in hip hip these days.
2.well i do think that you should put up atleast 5 songs on the net for people to hear coz 9/10 albums that drops today only got like 3 good songs on them and if iīm gonna buy an album i gotta make sure itīs quality before i buy it. i think you could sell for 6-10 bucks if itīs a quality album.
3.if i could find more of their songs i would definently check them out but if it would be hard to get a hold of their material i wouldnīt go out my ways to find some of their shit.

No offense and don't feel in anyway like I'm holding you down or whatever, but the rap world is allready way too overcrowded. There's no lack of and no demand for unknown rappers these days.

-That's whas up...I got some songs up on
www.R-Tistic.com
, it links you to my soundclick page. I don't have too much new stuff on there though, but those are some of my best beats on there.

I see what you mean. What albums were like this that sound forced, other than Alchemist, and what exactly do you mean? Do you mean that there was no consistency throughout the album, because that is one thing I realize about this project that may be the hardest. Even if the beats give the same mood and all, it still may be hard because each rapper I would work with would probably have different styles and different subjects. However, if the chemistry and all else was right, that could make it a strength. In a way, it would come off more as a compilation versus just a regular album.
Kottonmouth King: "DUDE....SERIOUSLY....GET MURS TO DO A TRACK WITH YOU!!!!!!!!"
LOL..that is definitely somethin that I HAVE to do, and I've been plannin on it for a long time. It's just been hard as hell because both of us are barely ever in LA anymore, but if this project happens, it'll be no question that he's on it.
Z the laidback Virus: "No offense and don't feel in anyway like I'm holding you down or whatever, but the rap world is allready way too overcrowded. There's no lack of and no demand for unknown rappers these days."
Well, it all depends on how you see it. The rap game may seem overcrowded, especially at the "bottom" as people always use the "Crowded at the bottom, lonely on top" phrase just like with everything else. However, I feel that the game is crowded with a lotta wack rappers, and that there are some good ones who don't get a chance to shine because the wack ones make it bad for everybody. I would not let anybody who was wack on the album, and I would have enough known rappers on it to make people listen, and when they hear some of these "unknown" rappers, they may give them a chance. I definitely won't have too many, if any, rappers who are only known by 15 kids in their neighborhood. Even if you or your friend may have never heard of somebody on it, I'd be sure that they had some sort of buzz, whether on the internet, their school, or whatever else. So it wouldn't just be a gang of unknown rappers on it like that.

Definitly go for it.
I think its really important that u maintain a consistant mood/sound over the course of an album. Im fed up of buying compilations where no thought is put into how the whole album will sound. What track follows another is real important.

Also if u do decide to make an album please do not include any skits of a rapper having sex, shooting someone etc. All they do is mess up the flow of the album and i dont know anyone who actually listens to the skits after the first time.

I'd be interested...definitely.
1) Yes
2) I'd release 4 full songs (let's say that there will be 16 tracks on it) & 5 snippets on the Internet. I definitely wouldn't put the entire album up for download, 'cause you can't expect that people will still buy it then. PRICE? Hmmm...kinda difficult to say, but I think something around 10-12 dollars should be good.
3) If the MC is really tight, I'll check for dude...

yea i mean that i wonīt have that consistency throughout the album. and itīs hard to get that dope overall feel when you got so many rappers rappin about different things and shit. only way i think you could pull it if was if you made it a theme album and then the artists would have to work with a certain theme throughout that motherfucker. i mean the only person that has pulled off these types of "compilations" in a great manner is Dr.Dre IMO.
