If Liverpool win the CL and Everton finish 4th then Everton will drop to the Uefa Cup and Liverpool qualify for the CL at their expense.

Does anyone else think this would be a grave injustice?

Should the "no more than 4" rule change?

I think they should. Same thing happened with Real Madrid in 2001 (i think that was the year) when Real Zaragoza were denied their champions league place because Real took their place by winning the previous years tournament. A couple of seasons later Zaragoza were relegated.

lol, 2 replies and neither answered the question

i don't think Liverpool should drop to Uefa and Everton should progress to CL

but i don't think the opposite should happen either

hence i think the rule should be changed

it would be criminal for Everton to fight (and win) all season for 4th place and not qualify for the CL

if the situation arises - both should qualify i.m.o.  both would deserve to be there

They were discussing it on Talksport this morning. England should be given another CL spot, but that is not happening so if Liverpool did win then it should go to them. Tough on Everton but shit happens.

Let's not get carried away anyway, chances of Liverpool beating Chelsea and AC Milan are pretty slim.

That kept her there in our minds for days
Weeks and months it was
I was that amazed and there she stays

I think that the previous winners of the CL (or UEFA cup if not in CL) should always be able to defend their trophy, and I believe if you win the CL its a bigger achievement than finishing 4th in your respective league so you should go into the better competition the following season.

Yes it shall be a shame for everton if it happens and will mean lost revenue, but finishing 4th in a league imo shouldn't intitle you to be a part of the biggest club competition in the world.

The CL should still just be for respective league champions and previous winners, not up to 4th place in some leagues, its wrong when smaller countries champions don't even qualify for the CL & have to make do with the UEFA cup and because you come 4th in one of the bigger nations leagues you qualify for the CL

But to UEFA its about the £'s

Basically, if you finish 4th in our league you qualify for the Champions League.  Thats the rule.

If you win it, then you qualify too, thats another rule.

Lets not jump the gun.  Because for one I dont think Liverpool will win the Champions League.  Gotta just wait and see.

Come on Chelsea!!!

Uefa insists Liverpool are not guaranteed entry into next season's Champions League unless they finish fourth in the Premiership.
Liverpool could win the Champions League but miss out by finishing outside the top four league placings.

Uefa communications director William Gaillard said the trophy would not be devalued if the holders were missing.

He told BBC Radio Five Live: "We don't feel the competition would be damaged or we would have it in the rules."

Uefa president Lennart Johansson says both Everton and Liverpool could compete in next season's Champions League.

The Football Association have confirmed that only the top four teams in The Premiership will represent England in next season's UEFA Champions League.
