i think alot of these producers we all mentioning are not pushing themselves to be more creative... everybody is trying to be as funky as they can. id like to see more producers take the dre approach and make more simple beats. but thats just me

Honestly, and I say this and believe it 100%, right now, Dr. Dre is one of the LAST people I'd call creative. IMO, Jelly Roll, Scott Storch, Meech Wells, DJ Quik are all more creative than dre.

personally the problem is that the only way you can really get known out of the west is if you're associated with dre/snoop/etc... hence most of the original/creative beatmakers don't reach that level...

you got:

Evidence, A-Plus (heiro), Domino (heiro not the sweet potato pie), Chief XL (Blackalicious), Bird (former Western HemisFear), dj khalil (self-scientific), E-Swift, and a ton of others making dope beats

while all you hear from the mainstream is a lot of shit that sounds the same...

Lately, I haven't cared much for Battlecat, Meech Wells, etc., but I'm definitely feeling some of those guys that you mentioned (especially Domino)! By the way, you forgot to mention Cut Chemist and DJ Nu-Mark (both from Jurassic 5!). Those are my two favorite west coast producers right now.
