Yeah, summer '95 was the year!  When I look back, I think I had the most fun that summer that any other year.  Here's what I mainly remember from summer '95:

1.  Bone Thugs - 1st of that month (I agree this epitomizes summer '95.  I remember hearing this on the radio for the first time in July thinking this was the tightest shit I'd ever heard.  Whenever I hear any track off this album I think of summer 1995.
2.  Coolio - Gangsta'z paradise (They played the fuck outta this song on the radio and The Box!)
3.  Soul for Real - Every little thing I do (I think of spending time, sittin' out by the alley with this girl I really liked when I hear this song.....damn, to be 15 again : )
4.  TLC - Waterfalls (This just has a summertime vibe and this got hella radio play too)
5.  Naughty by Nature - Feel me flow (This didn't get as much airplay, but when I hear this song all I can think about is that summer)
6.  2Pac - So many tears (I remember me and my crackaz driving around in another friend's car before we got our licenses.  Seems like this always came on the radio at that time)
7.  Skee-Lo - I wish (This always sounded like it should be a song for younger kids to me, but I couldn't front.  I was diggin it)
8.  Ice Cube - Friday (Think of the late night was this one)
9.  Dana Dane - Chester (Never really liked this song, but that played the video all the time on The Box and it was drilled into my memory for summer '95)
10.  DJ Quik - Summer breeze (If I remember correctly, the single for this did not drop until late in the summer maybe August.  But I had been bumping it since early 95 when the album dropped.

Man... you shouldn't have even gotten me started on 1995 and 96... I could go on forever about those two years in music.

Especially 96, I was 14 then, I wouldn't have traded that summer with anybody in the whole world... The music was the soundtrack to my life then it was a part of everything I did... my father was always out of town that summer, my mom was going back to school, I hung out at the pool all day, ran around all night, I always had girls before then but that was my first summer being in love, that experience eclipsed everything else..

..but then...abruptly the summer ended... my girlfriend flew back to her mom's house (I'd never see her again) to start the school year, 2pac was murdered, Snoop dropped a brick (tha Doggfather at the time was a brick, in retrospect it wasn't that bad), and really as soon as that summer finished life was never the same after that.  Music was never the same.  The whole world shifted beneath me.  It took me about 4 years and a change in religion to finally regain my footing.

So anyway, here's my little tribute to that year in music.  That was back when we were still borrowing cd's from our friends and copying them onto tapes.  We didn't do the internet then or cd burning.  We'd listen to the radio and press record when our song came on.  Anyway, here's my personal soundtrack to the summer.  These were the songs I was bumping daily, check it...

96' The Greatest Summer In Hip-Hop

Jayo Felony- "Zoom Zoom Wam Wams"

Crucial Conflict-  "Hay"

"The Macerena"  (Yep, even that song was dope to me then)

69 Boyz- "The Train"

Outkast-  "Atliens"

Too Short-  "Gettin It"

Dove Shack-  "Summertime in the LBC"

Nas-  "If I Ruled The World"

Fugee's- "Ready Or Not"

My songs I had with my girl...........

Monica-  "Baby That's Just Why I Love You So Much"

Total-  "Kissing You"

Jodeci-  "Get On Up"

2pac-  "How Do You Want It"

LL Cool J-  "Who Do You Love"

...really I love any song that came out that summer.  Even Jay-Z's cut with Foxy Brown was dope, and I was taking the East/West beef seriously then (favouring the West ofcourse).  But everything on the radio was hot.

Anyway, that's my take, I could really go on forever, you shouldn't have gotten me started on that summer.

I like what U posted here man I'm feelin' it especially tha part where it sayz "the music was the soundtrack to my life then it was a part of everything I did..." and "...life was never tha same after that. Music was never tha same.", I can tell that summer REALLY meant alot to U and those songz now reflect everything that was goin' on in your personal life back then...

I can just hear Monica singin' Baby That's Why I Love You So Much makez me think back of my ex-girl I had at that time...

But anyway I had tha same kind of experience only it was in tha summer of 1998 and it continued all tha way untill 1999 came in so thatz why I'm really feelin' what U said, 1998 is definitely a special year to me: thatz when I got my Technicz and I started mixin', I was alwayz busy doin' shit havin' fun hangin' with my friendz or whatever, I'd go clubbin' every weekend and then there was this girl ofcourse, damn I'm gonna have to quote U again cause that sumz it up pretty good "...that experience eclipsed everything else..." Everything in my life seemed just perfect at that time and there was also a soundtrack to all of this, see at that time tha music was like magic to me cause far less music was bein' released and I actually liked almost everything that came out and I was bumpin' alotta old shit too:

Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz - Uptown baby
Busta Rhymes - Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See
Lauryn Hill - complete Education Of Lauryn Hill album
Why Do Fools Fall In Love soundtrack
Ray J - That's Why I Lie
Ginuwine - Same Ol' G
Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody
Ma$e - What You Want
JD & Mariah Carey - Sweetheart
Khadejia with Product G&B - Here We Go
Whitney Houston - If I Told You That
MQ3 with Redman - Everyday
Next with Big Pun - I Still Love You remix
All party breakz by Crooklyn Clan
Big Kap - Push Em Up
Daz - complet Retaliation Revenge And Get Back album
Tatyana Ali - Daydreamin'
Brandy - U Don't Know Me

Etc etc etc...

Tha fun ended on new years eve however, I got sick earlier that day so I had to spend tha last night of '98 in bed, there were a few problemz concernin' that girl and I couldn't see her anymore, when tha new year had begun it seemed that tha group of friendz I had started to break up and went about their own wayz... Life seemed to have changed forever and all I had left was tha music and memoriez of 1998 and still to this day I catch myself reminiscin' sometimez about that year it made such an impact on me... I guess everybody has those certain periodz in their life when you're feelin' like nothin' can go wrong and you're on top of tha world!

Damn man I couldn't have said it better. I just had to put my input in, this is a great thread. I forgot how great summer '95 music was, also loves '96 summer. But my personal favorite was summer '97. This was just a personal favorite time of my life, things couldn't have been better. And I loved the music:

Westside Connection- Entire Bow Down album

Warren G- Smokin' Me Out (really the whole Take a Look Over Your Shoulder cd)

Tupac- whole Makaveli album (Iknow I got this cd came out Nov '96, but I didn't listen to it  til summer '97

Biggie- whole Life after Death album

Puffy- I'll Be Missing You

Biggie feat. Mase, Puffy- Mo Money, Mo Problems (all time favorite song, just because it gives me the best memories of my life)

Blackstreet feat. Dr. Dre- No Diggity

And so much more. I just loved music at that time. I loved chillin with my friends, playin ball till night, and just livin the life. It's crazy cause once it hit September things just never seemed the same. To this day I still love putting these cd's in and think about that summer. CLASSIC!
