1. you´ll probably get around, but it´s not like everybody speaks spanish fluently
2. crime rate is incredible, but most of it is mugging type stuff. You best avoid anything coming close to a favela (slum) or dark alley

4. lol, it´s the 5th biggest country in the world. a lot, depends on what type of things you wanna do and see

6. I would avoid the cheapest of places, they´re too likely to be filthy and actually dangerous in a country like Brazil
7. Rainy, it´s late winter, but it´s drier than may and june (i think)
8. Not everywhere, but brazilians are not very strict IN GENERAL
9. Why not? It´s the tropics, temperatures in winter barely go below 65-70 I think, the sea don´t cool down too much either

11. somewhere on the outskirts of rio. it´s not too smart to walk around there though. If you want a touch of favela, they actually make guided tours to Rocinha and show tourists the shantytown as an attraction

If you speak fluent spanish you get around OK, but most people arent fluent spanish. Its very different then portuguesee.

is it really that dangerous in rio de janeiro?

Crime IMO here is overated. You will be fine if you dont be stupid and play smart. Like dont be walking around with expensive or flashy clothes-jewlery and dont carry lots of money around. Stay away from favelas though.

what parts of rio are dangerous?

Anywhere can be dangerous. The most dangerous places are in the suberbs and favelas. The hotels are located in nice neighorhoods like Ipanema and Copacabana that are close to the beach.

what is there to do and see in brazil?

Wow Brazil is huge. Plenty of stuff to do. Depends on what you want to do. In Rio the main attraction is the Beach, sites, and the girls...

Copacabana has some cheap hotels. The best place to stay is IMO is Ipamema. I live their and its the safest and nicest neighborhood in rio. The beach is the best too.

how is the weather in august?

Its winter in August but it will be sunning. Around the 70s. August has the least amount of rain.

Of course. Why not? Just dont go to the beach with a shirt on...

yes you can go in the water anytime of the year.

Girls always love Americans that come down to visit. I dont know why but they like foreiners.

Very far from the main part of the city. Around 50 miles away. City of God is not that dangeous anymore as it use to be dont worry about it. The most dangerous favela in rio is Rocinha which is a bit closer. They do tours their if you want to check it out...

hell yeah, man im so excited, i need to go get some learn portuguese books n tapes so i can get ready, right now were planning on staying down there for 2 weeks but i wanna stay more, i was lookin around and i found these companies that own apartments down there and they rent them out to tourists for real cheap in copacabana and ipamema. hopefully everything works out and the people i want to go with agree with my plans, if not fuck it ill find new people to go with cause brazil is lookin too damn attractive right now.

btw i really need to go on the notorious s.i.k. workout plan and get fit so i can walk everywhere with no shirt on, lol
