Arctic Monkeys (For whiteboy etc)
« on: June 05, 2005, 11:03:57 AM »

http://www.ilovethesheriff.com/arcticmonkeys.html

The best new band I've heard for at least 2 years. Hard to class their style, probably on some Pop/Punk/Ska blah blah blah shit. Bit of everything really. They have been compared to The Libertines and are tipped for huge things (based solely on just how good there demo is). No doubt you Americans will find the accent hilarious but download Mardy Bum and Scummy and if your not hooked, kill yourself.

I was that amazed and there she stays

nah they're pretty young and funny.. the lead rapper/singer called "man cub" is about 5 ft tall.. his wife was in the crowd next to where me and my friend emma were.. she was  :o :o

my old friend bubba (louie) aka be-elzebubber who got kicked out of Aspects got up on stage with them and rapped a bit.. according to their site he's got up on stage with them a few times

Do they rap about dick length or is it more social commentary?

Did you download any Arctic Monkeys song? AM are social commentary, some of the lyrics wouldn't be out of place in Streets song.

"Yeah I'd love to tell you all my problems/Your not from New York City, your from Rotherham"

"They've got engaged, no intention of a wedding/He's pinched your bird and he'd probably kick your head in"

defnitely not about dick length.. lol.. they're more Ska than hiphop.. i've heard they can be a lot more hiphop than they were at the gig i saw.. so yes lots of social commentary type stuff. plus a love song dedicated to his wife that made her blush and stick her finger up at him on stage at the same time..

i didnt peep any AM stuff yet

Check out Ordinary Boys - Boys Will Be Boys. It's a Ska/Rock/Reggae track, bit different to what they normally do but it's pretty good. (And yes, I am just looking for an excuse to bump this thread up)

Yesterday Coldplay were interviewed by Zane Lowe and they talked about Arctic Monkeys. Chris Martin declared that the lead singer was a better lyricist then he was. They are getting bigger by the day, tickets for yesterdays gig at London were going for £50+ on Ebay. In a few years time when they are fucking huge I'm going to bring this thread up and laugh at my amazing judgement.

Personally, I'd say the new album was better then anything previously released, it's a definite grower. I say that because when you first listen nothing grabs your attention like 'Yellow' and other songs did but give it chance and you see how solid nearly every track is. Chris Martin is a genius when it comes to ballads. 'Fix You' is my personal favourite. I was in a record shop this afternoon and it was playing, I noticed what a throughly enjoyable record it was.

yea thats wat i think about coldplay, like, for 1, i think its hard for them to make a bad song, i mean, his voice is really good and their tunes are always above average, but ye the new album, after the 1st listen , nothing stands out, ... but im sure itll grow on me

Coldplay are meant to be good live too. Seen them on TV doing live performances which have been excellent, obviously because he has a near perfect singing voice then the songs lose nothing. Some other bands pull their songs of on the stage like Coldplay can.
