Why was Common's Be Final release so short?
« on: June 10, 2005, 02:19:25 PM »
What do you think, or know?  I know when it leaked he was saying that wasn't all the songs, but when it came out in stores it was the same shit.  I think he was just trying to downplay the short record talk until it came out in stores so it wouldn't hurt his first week sales as much.

well, it was short in comparison to todays standards, but back in the day, most albums only had like 8 tracks on them..
at least they're all pretty much quality tracks. which, is more than i can say for more than 80% of the albums out there with more than 11 tracks

Yup - my thoughts exactly.

The irony is that the record is so dope because it's so short. 45 minutes of top quality music... the whole thing would have been watered down if they added another seven tracks just to pad it out.

Today was actually the first time I listened to the album all the way through (twice) since buying it... got to say it's excellent. The 'classic' talk is just silly but you can't deny it's 4 or 4.5 out of 5. Amazing stuff.

what´s the album that most people consider the best hiphop record ever? How long is it?

I agree totally. I was just wondering why he said it would be longer.   If you start putting filler in an album, some people will sleep on it.  All killer is what Common did here, and it was a good choice.

the common album was dope.  the shortness though does leave you wanting for more, which is what any mc should do.  come to think of it the songs are what make me want more.  i love this cd because its not just the same shit that is out and any cd no matter how long or short it is that doesnt reflect how good it will be.  im just going on and on about nothing right now cause im high as fuck but like white boy said, you say its short i say its perfect.

I mean short as in what most people think an album should be, length wise. Most of my favorite albums are short. Creeping on ah come up, Westcoasanostra, technically 'Be' could be considered an EP too because it is under 40 minutes. Anyways seeing as we all agree on this point, back to the original purpose of my thread.  Why do you think he said there would be more tracks in interviews?

i think mad people would sleep cause a majority of people dont wanna pay for a full priced cd for 11 tracks.

Yeah they dont think it's worth it or whatever, thats why I try before I buy.  If i like the album I'll buy it regardless of the price.

I thought there was gonna be a remix of The Corner or something else on it. What happened to that?

Putting the live version of the food on the album was nice. the studio version didn't have enough energy to it as the one he did on chappelles show did.

^I'd want both, which is why I got both^

and I say 11 quality track album >>>>>>22 track album with 18 tracks of filler and bullshit(50 cent)
