Dr Dre and P Diddy ever work together???
« on: June 10, 2005, 06:04:04 PM »
Just curious if Dr Dre and P Diddy have ever produced a track together or will in the future? I read on MTV.com how Puffy was being picky with tracks submitted for his new CD. Supposedly, he laughed Cool and Dre out of the studio until they bought some heat for his new CD. I think Scott Storch made the album too. Just curious if Dre or Diddy ever met or if anyone has a pic of them together.  I wouldnt mind seeing those two make some tracks together.

Alot of people forget that Diddy produced and introduced the greatest rapper of all time.........imo to see Dre and Diddy hook up would be great. 2 legends in the studio at the same time.

If Diddy came wit some hard beats like old days and then add Dre perfection you cant deny that would be a hit.

Dr. Dre pretty much dissed Puffy in that Source issue with him running on the cover (the aftermath issue from years ago) so I'm not sure he's a very big fan.  He basically said Puff wasn't shit.

I've never considered Puffy to be a legitimate producer. He may have a good ear for music, he may be very business-savvy and he helped build a dynasty in Bad Boy Records, but as far as actual beat making, I don't think he's anywhere near Dre's level.

For one, the majority of Diddy's "productions" are based on samples. Granted, Dre sampled heavily during the early stages of his career, Diddy went on to MAKE his career via sampling on records. A lot of cats believe that "Ready To Die" and "Life After Death" were Puffy produced albums, when in reality, there were dozens of talented musicians and legit producers that helped develop the sound and creativity of those records. I don't wanna sound like I'm dogging on Puff, but I believe that he gets way too much credit, producer-wise. I doubt that he even knows how to play keys or program drums. He's had some incredible ideas and he is a creative person without a doubt, but he ain't fucking with Dre at all.

^ You wont' get any arguments here, but Puffy most definately can play keys and program drum machines.  That, though, is not saying much, anybody could program stuff like that, Puffy's on a different level... he's almost a businessman's producer... he's gonna be the guy who goes in the studio with some musicians and makes what he thinks is going to sound good, he's not performing most of it or anything.  You can't really slam him about the samples, either, because like Dre, yeah he did a lot of them, but Puffy actually has several dope beats he's done himself.  Nobody's saying he's on Dre's level, but I'd say he's a competant producer, if you wanted a hit, puff would bring you one.

You got a point, Trauma. It's that in both XXL articles ( The Making Of "Ready To Die" and the Making of "Life After Death" ), most, if not all musicians interviewed at one point or another mentioned that Puff would never actually sit at the drum machine or fuck with the keyboards, but he did direct the sound on several ocassions. I would chalk it up to a different level of producer...not all are the same or have the same methods, that's for sure.

No producer that I know hasn't had help in their career, at any stage. Comparing Dre to Puffy is no comparison, imo...as far as the list of names above, how successful have those dudes been ( as producers ) without Dre working with them, with the exception of Scott Storch. Mike Elizondo has been working with Dre since '97, so he's a crucial part of Dre's production to this day. Hell, Dre gives him co-producer credit, nowadays. Sam Sneed helped Dre on only 2 beats, both were classics, but Sam Sneed never reached those heights on his own since then, which is a shame, cuz I got hella love for Sam Sneed. Daz & Warren G helped shape the sound of "The Chronic" and "Doggystyle", but it's been stated time and time again by people in the know, that Dre was the MAIN head of the direction. Every producer has musicians, creative people assisting with ideas and co-producers. J-Flexx was never Dre's partner as far as beats went, he just wrote for Dre at one point.

If you check album credits for Biggie's albums, you'll see what I mean. Usually, it's the musicians are credited first, then Puffy. In Dre's credits, it states "Produced by Dr. Dre" before anything. And it's confirmed that Dre plays instruments, has anyone confirmed that Puffy does the same?
