has the west coast forgotten about soundtracks?

i'm playing PPC - I'm a playa (bitch) from the trespass soundtrack.. .and it got me to thinking.. i remember back in the day west coast artists used to always get a spot or two all over soundtracks.. labels used to use movie soundtracks to break artists, and to break new songs etc.. i cant recall this happening much lately.. last i can seriously recall are Bones.. Dysfunktional family... and what.. GTA San Andreas + True Crime Streets of LA

i know mixtapes are the 'new' fashionable thing for getting an artist heard.. but i believe its only one trick..


shouldnt it be easier for west coast artists to get onto certain movie soundtracks what with hollywood being so close by?

Yep you mad right(once again ) Soundtracks like Menace II Society, Friday, Bones are forgotten, and soundtracks are a VERY good way of promotion...but if you relate to our days we can see that XXX state of the union was a BULLSHIT movie AND soundtrack(besides that PE and Moby)...i can't say other new movies cause i didn;t had the chance to see some (btw in 2 days i'll get menace II society i hope is a good movie as they say..and boyz n tha hood as well)  The wash ost was good, but will we see some  new good sountracks? nah i don't think so...only if the veterans decides to do some for a good movie

The Wash is also a recent one, but unfortunately it didn't feature a lot of new West Coast artists...
You're right though...it's a good way to introduce an artist to the mainstream since those movies have most of the time a pretty big push from the Hollywood companies. Coolio is the perfect example for this thread. He was just an "underground" cat, and he blew up because of Gangsta's Paradise which was to be found on the Dangerous Minds OST.

Here is some Death Row Records news that is out. We cannot verify all this, but things are hard to get verified at Tha Row. But according to reliable sources at SuperBrawl (PR Wayne); Petey Pablo has officially signed to Death Row.Records.

There is a new drop being readied from Death Row / Koch called ‘SuperBrawl Soundtrack’ featuring rappers Petey Pablo, Eastwood, Kurupt, Danny Boy, Too Cool, R Kelly, Ja Rule, Scarface, and Lloyd; also a special appearence by Tupac

The first major single off ‘SuperBrawl Soundtrack’ will be ‘Ghetto Honey’feat. Petey Pablo, Eastwood & Too Cool featuring R Kellyand produced by Lil Jon. There is no official release date yet.

Here is a track off the cd referred to as T'he SuperBrawl Theme Song'. It is Eastwood and a track called – ‘Put Ya Money Up’. Listen to it  HERE.

Also Suge has signed a new artist called Too Cool to Death Row Records along with Petey Pablo.  He is from LA and used to be signed to Tray Deee's label, 4 Life Records. He has left 4 Life.

i think the reason why more west coast artists were on soundtracks more back in the is because back in the day west coast music was the biggest thing. From the seattle grunge thing to the LA nothing but a g thang.
