Back in the day when the audience for rap music was smaller, and people who listened to rap..only listened to rap, they appreciated who was the best. And the best sold records. Then slowly...and slowly that changed. Vanilla Ice had the top single in the country. Puffy and Mase had Mo Money Mo Problems. Sisqo's "The Thong Song" got nominated for best hip hop video on the Grammies! LiL Bow Wow went platinum....etc...etc. Its marketing...period. And anyone involved in marketing of music, movies, entertainment in general know...you market to females and kids. I cant name ONE muthafucka i know that ever bought a Ja Rule/Ying Yang/Chingy/Nelly cd. But i seen a lotta bitches with em, and a lotta kids. Marketing departments know this, the world revolves around females...and kids. If a woman wants a certain CD, she's gonna buy it. If she cant buy it, theres some sucka ass dood there to buy it for her. Shit, why do u think clubs have "Ladies Free Night"? Cus guys will almost always shell out the chips when a girl wont.  If a kid wants a CD, and hasnt saved their allowance for the shit. While kids and females are a very powerful force in determining what sells in rap music , you and i know white people are the main consumers of hip hop don't deny that for one minute right there. but heres one thing in this buisness of entertainment of music ---theres been alot of buff dudes or guys with better looks then 50 cent who have failed miserably trying to market to females (singing on stage, taking there shirts off the whole 9) so it does for 1 take talent to make it in the industry, thats why i say-what i say that rappers need to get there bars up to be able to survive in the industry. once you've got a talented rapper that can make great hooks, write catchy lyrics, and the sounds of a great solid producer behind him your product cannot go wrong.
of course you cant survive on only talent without marketing, you do need some marketing thats what a promotional team, doing promo tours across radio stations all over the nation etc are for

i dont know what part of the ghetto you come from, but one thing people bump ja. hes actually a pretty good lyracist with a charisma that rivals daz dillinger. but heres 1 thing music is music whats dope to you, might be garbage to the next man -------different strokes 4 different folks.
