Author Topic: which westcoast rappers do you think have the most "marketing" potential?  (Read 535 times)

We Fly High

Bad Azz

i think his name alone kills any sort of marketing potential.

GangstaBoogy

Ali Vegas is very marketable. He was one of 3LW's "Boyfriends" in their video. It's obvious he had some appeal to the eyes. The label must've not known how to spin that.

word? which video?
"House shoes & coffee: I know the paper gone come"

I know his voice ain't nothing special, but I think E-White is marketable coz he speaks the truth about the state of the rap game.  And personaly I think he got a great voice and a great flow.

again..whats that do with with marketing? SKILLS AND CONTENT AREN@T MARKETING?

is he a pretty boy? - gotta get those teeny girls
is he fucking someone famous?
has he been shot 409358934854 times?

thats marketing..

Crooked I could easily blow...1) He's talented, 2) He has a unique voice which helps set him apart from 'the competition', 3) Through his history with 'Death Row' he has already connected and has worked with several influential figures in rap/hip-hop, 4) The media/his label could probably place a spin on his 'controversial' career thus far eg:- surviving 'Tha Row', and 5) He seems motivated and enthusiastic towards capturing success, despite some potential set-backs that he has suffered - again, see ''Tha Row''.

Ras Kass maybe? He's the definition of the under-dog given his illustrious history with Priority, and, like Crooked, he has connections in high places. Plus, the whole ''One of Dr. Dre's five greatest MC's ever'' should sell him to the public and the hordes of Shady/Aftermath/G-Unit followers. He may go over some people's heads and he lacks in the charisma department, but he has already proven that he can craft good party/club songs with the likes of ''The Whoop''. He just needs to find a deal with a major who sees his potential...although so do a lot of other West Coast rappers I suppose.

Then again, perhaps I'm not the one to call it since I would have never found Spider Loc marketable. Perhaps I'm missing something... ???

did u miss the post where we agreed that talent doesn't equal marketing?

put out a pretty young MTV friendly old rapper without much to say and he'll sell loads...
thats how it goes.. it aint about these old men.. both the people you listed are pushing 30 or more arent they?

That new cat Enock that's been featured on this site has crazy potential! He's not "cliche" West Coast with his style but he should have some definite mainstream appeal.

^^Here he is here.

I assume you're referring to my post...no, I didn't miss the post where we agreed the talent doesn't equal marketing. However,  what I was trying to say is that both the rappers I have listed have far more than just talent going for them. In regards to their age, I don't know and truthfully I don't care. When I buy a rapper/artist in general's album the last thing I think about is how old they are. I'm pretty sure that the majority of listeners wouldn't consider this a priority either.

I think Crooked I is very marketable.

why? thats a pretty blanket statement.

people want more of a back story than "he a rapper"

good marketing has virtually nothing to do with skills

Good marketing doesn't have to include skills.  But it can.

I think Crooked I could be big, just because of his attitude, you can tell he wants it.

He shouldn't be marketed to the little 14 year old girls.  He should be marketed to his target audience.  He is marketable for what he is.  He isn't a pop rapper.  I think he'll have more of a 'cult' type following when he comes out.
