Dubcnn Featured In LA City Beat
« on: August 08, 2005, 11:50:09 PM »
Keepin’ It Real Up-to-Date

Where did G-Funk junkies get their earliest heads-up on Warren G Week, which
happens to run through Saturday in Long Beach? DubCNN.com. Where were
enthusiasts of Left Coast thug styles checking for a behind-the-scenes
documentary of “We’re All in the Same Gang, Part II”? DubCNN.com. And it
goes without saying that beef chroniclers in search of Nas’s “Don’t Body
Yourself” – the response to 50 Cent’s dis called “Piggy Bank” – arrive at
the site that bills itself as WS without the BS.

For all you squares, “dub” is short for W, “WS” stand for Westside, and
“CNN” is a news network based in Atlanta. On this network – which is
operated out of England, of all places – there’s infinitely more interest in
posting typed freestyles (“Keystyle”) than following, for example, the sadly
inane storyline of that blonde in Aruba. Westside downsides? Posters
expending way too much effort to sound tough and instances of unconscionably
bad spelling. But that’s everywhere online, where rap fandom is concerned.
DubCNN’s community of users is hip enough that a recent thread on the West’s
Top 5 Dis tracks had this homie reminiscing way past deadline.

Make no mistake, Westside bias almost to the point of obsession is DubCNN’s
raison d’ętre. And yet its operators are diverse enough in their interest in
hip-hop to feature savvy interviews with groups as far-flung as Midwest
pioneers Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and the iconically East Coast Brand Nubian.
The site, which turns three next month, is so credible, James Earl Jones
should consider doing an ID drop. (Anybody knows Darth Vader would have been
the illest gangster rapper of all time.) (Donnell Alexander)

yeah there are a few minor things wrong in that article but as a whole its great :)

i'm most chuffed that he liked the name DUBCNN.. which I made up.. and seemed to like the cheesy tagline "WS without the BS" which i also made up! :)

its DUBC NN not DUB CNN ;)  i dont want CNN on our asses.. the C stands for Coast!

i also like how he mentioned this community.. although didn't mention is kinda seperate and is DUBCC

That's a great response. I dunno if the writer was referring to the DubCC community when he referred to users acting tough, 'cause I've never really noticed that with any of the news posts on the DubCNN site. On the whole though, the message was on point.
"Shit ain't all peaches and cream, and I ain't Sara Lee, bitch!" - Lloyd Banks

"I'm Morpheus in this Hip-Hop Matrix, exposing fake shit." - Common

"With consecutive platinum hits, I up my status. Ain't no more Calvin Broadus!" - Snoop

"Look at all these conscious rappers - guess who influenced them?" - KRS One
