The Source Eminem album review
« on: June 05, 2002, 06:07:42 AM »
I picked up the new Source yesterday thinkin' it was going to have "The Eminem Show" review in it.  Nope.  Since the album is already out, that probably means they won't review it.  I think that's pretty fucked up because it ought to get five mics.

I don't know man...normally they review shit months before it comes out, like Quik for instance.  And you know this Eminem was available to review for them because it has been on the internet for over 2 months!  They never reviewed Makaveli and I don't think they ever reviewed E. 1999(maybe they did).  Anyway, there's a lot of great albums that they don't review.

They talked a tiny bit about it in the interview they published with him in the may edition so i'm thinking they've prolly heard all of it by now. I hope they review it though, i'm kinda interested in how many mics their gonna give him. Oh, and they never reviewed 'Pac's AEOM either.

(Edited: Just incase someone misunderstands me, they never reviewed AEOM when it first dropped, but they did rightfully give it a 5 mic rating in one of this yr's issues.)

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

its been on the net for a month

no current magazine has had it reviewed yet because they havn't had a chance yet, they would have to have their magazine finished atleast 2 weeks before they put it on the shelves probably more like a month use ur brain a lil bit will be reviewed just wait for the next issue watch it get 4.5 mics

iraq would just get annexed by iran

That would be a great solution.  If Iran and the majority of Iraqi's are pleased with it, then why shouldn't they do it?

Yeah, working for a magazine myself I can tell you that The Source would have had to get the album a long time before release to ensure it got covered in an issue hitting stands only just after the CD. They couldn't just review the leaked copy and trust the label and Em not to change it drastically.

Plus, I remember them justifying not reviewing big releases like some of Pac's stuff. If the label doesn't give them a promo far enough in advance they don't get the opportunity to publish a review prior to the album dropping - in the case of a release as big as Makaveli fans would cop it the second it dropped. So, The Source reasons, why review a CD that any self-respecting hip hop fan has already made their mind up about?

It's a guaranteed 4 mic at the most...

A nice lp, that show's a different emotional side of Slim.
This cd has different personalities, and can and will fit a different mood. agrresive, heartfelt & Humorous.
A + plus that the unessesary diss's were held to a minumum.
Personal fav tracks were.
"My dad's gone crazy"
"In my closet"
"White America"
I belive a 3.5/4 mic is in order, This is the type of cd you bump the hell out of the first 3 days, then get burned out on like the second week with it.
Don't get me wrong the song's are great song's, just Em's voice does a number on your sense's after a while. IMO
"Eminem Show" receives....

4 dub's.....IMO

I dought it will recive anything less than that in the source, but a 5......ughhh history proves other wise, I'm sure "New York" will not allow that. ;)

In the end it's all an opinion, I'm just glad I held out and waited for the final version to come out.
Unlike Most I belive, had I joined the masses and copped it before, the nostolga of a new Em cd would have been long since burned out.

Peace

This is a classic album, much better than "Stillmatic"  and "The Blueprint."

I think we need a 5 year ban on the world "classic"... this album isn't one, but then neither were blueprint or stillmatic.

i read in the source that the reason that they don't review certain albums is because the artist himself has to get a promo copy to the source at least 2 weeks before it's coming out. so, in the case many "shoulda been reviewed" cd's, it's actually the artist's decision. i read an editorial in the source a few years ago about how everyone bitches that they don't review certain albums "makaveli" and review others like "young MC return of the one hit wonder" and it's just their policy to do albums that they receive from the artist 2 weeks before the release date

Well, in my opinion, The Source had enough time to review it.  Honestly, I wouldn't call it a "classic", but if Blueprint and Stillmatic got 5 mics, then Em should also.
