Dre going back to G-Funk?
« on: April 18, 2001, 07:22:27 PM »
i'm back for a final time.sorry for my long posts, but i can only be on for a few days and i got a lot of things to say and info to pass on.thanks for your patience.
anywayz, for a long time now i've been hearing people wondering when dre is going to go back to the g-funk style he had in 92 and 93. and the answer is: he will never return to g funk the way some of you guys want him to.  dres original g funk sound used a lot of live instruments, but was based on replaying and expanding on classic funk samples. before "2001" only a few dre tracks were 100% original. now almost every track dre does starts from scratch, and using real musical instuments and creative ideas becomes a living, breathing, innovative 100% original composition. now dre's g funk style can be heard on songs like snoops "hennessey and buddah" and eve's "blow your mind".those are g-funk songs that are sample free. and thats as close as dre's gonna get to his old sounds. i know its dissapointing to some, but thats the way it is.its time to let go of the past. if your fiending for g funk listen to doggystyle. dre did not get to where he is at by using the same production sytle over and over again. other westcoasts artists may always keep the same style but they have not or will not last or be very successful. dre's musical style isn't g-funk, westcoast, gangsta,or anything. dre's style is music.and his music will always encorporating different and new sounds, types of music and production styles. he will always be changing and evolving. dre moves forward and never looks back. he's always looking for new sounds that have never been heard before. he stays on top cause hes constantly moving forward. during dres time thouands of artists and producers have fallen by the wayside cause they run in the same place and never get anywhere. and innovators like dre pass them by.
and ive heard some people say dre has fallen off. you may like his old styles better, but to say dre has fallen off is crazy.he is much better as a complete producer than he was 10 years ago. dre is easily the best hiphop producer of all time and one of the best ever in all of music. you should see this man in the studio.its magic.he is always in the zone. if you witnessed him working you would see why i compare him to michael jordan. no matter how many championships or mvp's dre wins he always wants more and he wants to get even better. dre keeps pushing cause to him the perfect hiphop album is still out there and dre wants to make it.dre also makes everyone around him better. although dre is a very nice guy and never gets verbally or physically abusive he will get in someones face if he feels that they are not working as hard as he is. if they don't want to work as hard as the rest of the team dre doesn't want them around. dre is surrounded by great artists, engineers, musicians and co producers but dre is the boss. he only plays keyboards and drums but hums basslines and give sound and instrument ideas and directions to the musicans. dre's ear for music is a god giving talent few people have. if any sound, vocal or instrument is off even the slightest he will hear it and get it perfected. and when dre mixes songs he will do it 20 or 30 times til it gets exactly the way he wants it.
so just like the nba fell off when mj left, rap will fall off when dre leaves. what hes done and is yet to do will probably never be topped ever again. once he is gone then you will appreciate and understand what i'm saying. now i gotta go back to hibernation as i have a lot of work to do.so everyone take care and ill talk to you down the road.
peace and funk y'all....all y'all
