So its sort of... Bob Dylan month... who's down?
« on: September 27, 2005, 11:19:40 AM »
both US channel PBS and the UK's BBC2 are airing the new Martin Scorsese directed documentary about Dylan called "no direction home" in 2 parts. part 1 was shown over here last night.. part 2 air's in about 2 hours. the film came out on DVD in the US on 20th, over here its not out Oct 3rd.

personally i knew little about dylan before watching the program, but of course knew some of his music. i'm a sucker for music docu's.. so this was a must watch for me

i've been listening to dylan today ("the essential album" plus a few more odd songs) and have discovered a few songs i quite like.. the best i never knew before is "Hurricane"

Dylan is an incredible artist, a lot of good albums, and some incredible songs, such as the one you pointed out (Hurricane). Some of my favourite albums of his are Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde On Blonde. Any of his 60s albums are good, and his 70 and on albums are definetly worth checking out.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

He has a funny dance thing he does live. And if you like his songs his worth seeing more than once as each show is usually different (due to large catalogue) and if he does same songs, him and his band will probably play them different. That ex-bird of his that was in part1 of the doc has never given an interview about their relationship before as well. Anyone else find the Newcastle fans hilarious? I wish british rap shows were full of people like that.

ive never been a huge fan of bob dylan...i can really appreciate why hes held with such high regard and why hes considered to be one of only a few living legends, because his contribution to music in general is undeniable, but ive just never really gotten into any of his music...

my step-dad has the biggest Dylan collection ive ever seen...

Dylan is an incredible artist and maybe the greatest lyricist in popular music ever. I´d like to see the docu too

Highway 61 Revisited, Bringing it All Back Home, Blonde on Blonde and Blood on the Tracks are some albums everybody should know
