This trade isn't anything big, but it's a really good trade for the Lakers, not because they got anything in return, but because they can now keep Laron Profit and Devin Green, both who would help the Lakers more than Jumain Jones...And at least we got a 2nd round pick, which is better than just cutting Jones for nothing in return. Remember, players like Van Exel, Ginobli, Ben Wallace, Trevor Ariza etc. were picked in the second round...I'm not saying the Lakers will get a chance to pick a player like that, but at least they cleared up a roster spot without any significant losses to the team... Current roster:

Smush Parker...Aaron McKie/Sasha Vujacic/Von Wafer
Kobe Bryant...Laron Profit/Devin Green/Tony Bobbit
Lamar Odom...Devean George/Luke Walton
Kwame Brown...Brian Cook/Slava Medvadenko/Corie Blount
Chris Mihm...Andrew Bynum/Adam Parada

Coach: Phil Jackson

True, but I liked jones. I thought he could've played his role pretty good with the lakers.

Horrible trade. Jumaine Jones was coming from the best season of his career, and all we have in return is a 2nd round pick? Plus Jones was the only member in the actual roster who can hit the 3 and defend hard at the same time. Really horrible trade.

LOL@horrible trade. Jones was obviously not gunna get much playing time under Phil. The Lakers had no use for him anymore, it's better than just cutting him. Lamar Odom and Devean George will obviously get the most minutes at the small forward spot, Luke Walton will be coming off the bench and also filling in a good amount of minutes at the 3...Then we have Laron Profit, Devin Green, and Sasha Vuvajic, all who are gunna be playing some minutes at the four. That leaves no room for Jumain Jones...I much rather see Devin Green developing and playing 5-15 mins a game at the SF position than Jumain Jones subsiding and playing 5-15 minutes a game at the SF position.

I agree. JJ would not have gotten much playing time behind Odom, DG and Luke. It would have been nice if we could have packaged him, Vlade's expiring K, and Slava/Cook for a decent Big but I'm sure teams would really salavate over a deal like that.

You can look at this the same way as back in '99, when we unloaded NVE and the Kobe stopper. I hated seeing them leave, but it had to happen to fit the plan.
Being a LAKER is a privilige. Unfortunately some "Lakers" have forgotten that.

Los Angeles Lakers

I'm not surpriced...jj had his try-out last season when the Lakers started running the Triangle offence in the middle of the season,HE FAILED..he doesn't know the triangle offence,he doesn't fit the offence,in the triangle offence most of your shots will be on the move,JJ is not a good shooter when he has to do that,i remember he shot a couple of airballs last season when he was in the pinch post and had to turn around and shoot the ball...he's a spot up shooter..he'll be perfect for the suns or mavs,he could shoot all the 3's he want with them

SF: L,Odom/D,George/L.Walton-----D.George and walton know the in & outs of the offence, and Lamar Odom wil get there soon 8)

plus the lakers only had 1 spot left and 3 guys were fighting for it...you could x out jj now,say goodbye to C.Blunt,so D.Green who's playing really good will get that last spot

It's like whatever the lakers were stacked with a bunch of small fowards anyways. Don't sleep on Devon George. He plays good under Phil.

That doesnt mean he's worth just a 2nd rounder.

It's just the fact that we got nothing in return, man. Who'll shoot from 3pts? Who'll open defences? Who'll play hard defence? You?

WTF? LOL...It doesn't matter if he's not worth a 2nd rounder, nobody was gunna trade a player worth acquiring for him, so the Lakers traded him for a 2nd round pick, and more importantly, a roster spot so we can sign Devin Green. It basically came down to who we wanted to keep, and we have a lot of talented new guys, like Devin Green, Von Wafer, Laron Profit, etc. all who I'd like to see get a roster spot over Jumain Jones...And best of all, we got a draft pick (from a team that will get an early pick) for practically cutting a player...The trade is nothing significant, but it definitely was a smart move...PeACe

smush parker is playing great and will be are 3 point shooter,he's shooting 54% from the field and 41% from the 3 point line..4 better then chuky atkins who shot 37 % last season from 3 point line and defensevly smush is way better and more physical

and BTW JJ avg a career high in 3 point % last season..hmmmm i wonder why?

Smart move my ass. Is it smart to have a player coming from the best season of his career locked in your roster till the end of october and then to realize you dont really need him but and undrafted tattoed player named Green? And is it smart to send him to Bobcats for just a 2nd rounder in return to make space for Green? If it is, i'd rather be dumb than smart. Instead than nothing in return, why not trading Jones and Medvedenko to Minnesota for let's say Sprewell? Salaries match. That's a smart move we should have done. Not sending him to Bobcats for free. A 2nd round draft pick aint helping our team when the NBA starts. And we def need help.

That's just crazy how some of you will spit on the face of the same players we loved just a couple of months ago. Jones was a fan favourite last season, an huge surprise, the best of the season. Now all of a sudden he was overrated? Just because Phil didnt use him in his triangle rotation? I understand that we had to trade him, cause it was pointless to keep him. But please dont disrespect the player Jones. He was my fav player last year (i've even had an avatar with his pic for a couple of days). And to compare him with a PG is pointless.
