Ron Isley Convicted Of Tax Evasion, Faces 26 Years In Prison

Ronald Isley, lead singer of the Isley Brothers, has been convicted of tax evasion, according to Reuters. The conviction could land the singer in prison for up to 26 years.

According to Reuters report, Isley, 64, was found guilty on Monday (October 31) on five counts of tax evasion and one count of failing to file a tax return.

Isley will be sentenced in January and faces a maximum sentence of 26 years in prison, but is expected to only receive 5 to 10 years, according to court sources.

Although no specific amount was named, prosecutors said the R&B singer lived lavishly over the years, buying a yacht, homes in California and Missouri and two Bentley cars while failing to pay more than $300,000 in taxes in 2002.

In addition, prosecutors said Isley received more than $12 million for performances between 1997 and 2002, but demanded he be paid in cash to avoid paying taxes.

And was also accused of cashing checks issued to other Isley Brothers, as well as his brother O'Kelly, who died in 1986.

Isley's attorneys told jurors that two of the singer's accountants had died during the period in question, making the tax process difficult. He denied any willful tax evasion.

Unlucky for him, I wonder if the summer breeze will be blowing through his jail cell.

Yeah, when you do the crime you gotta pay the time.  Damn, there goes the twilight of his career.  He's GOT to be mid 60's by now.

I like the man's music and all, but damn...what an idiot. You just KNOW they'll eventually get to you when you're a singer who has sold millions of albums. The higher you are on the ladder, the more they pay attention to you.

Seems like Ron never heard of that lesson...

Apparently you're not familiar with American law enforcement. To them, rich black celebrities are in between murderers and child pornographers.

Yeah, he'll end up in a country club.  I had a friend urgh, asshole associate of mine who got busted for some shit over the internet, basically amounted to mail fraud... he ended up serving a year in a halfway house, he could leave all the fucking time.  Got out to work, got out to exercise, got out to go to church.  He was only there about 8 hours a day, and basically it served as a home for a year so he didn't even have to pay rent the whole time.  Ronnie Isley'll have interior decorators and shit in there before the weeks' up making the place comfortable for him.  Donate a free pool table to the rec room.  Donate cars for the staff to use.  Pay to have meals catered.  Nothing but an inconvieance to a man like him with the wealth he's got.
