The Drive, Edge & Motivation For DETOX
« on: November 28, 2005, 03:32:51 PM »
If this has been posted or discussed before, than I apologize.... with that said:

I've read some old comments from mellowman, Hi-Tek and Eminem...and it led me to thinking...

Does Dr. Dre have the passion, drive and motivation to make DETOX reach it's expectations and hype?

It's extremely possable that Dre doesn't have the same "edge" he had when creating classic albums such as "Straight Outta Compton", "Niggaz 4 Life", "The Chronic", "Doggystyle" and "Chronic 2001". (I'm referring to "classic" albums that Dre produced 90% or more of as opposed to somthing like "The Marshall Mathers LP").

According to reports Dre has spent more time deciding what direction to go with DETOX than he's ever done with the previous albums mentioned. Let alone spending more time to create the production for the LP. When NWA released thier first official album in '88, they were brand new so therefore the pressure to produce great music was at it's least. Off course the pressure and expectations grew when Dre wanted to prove he can be a solo artist and still release classic material, but it was still his first solo effort.

Before the release of "2001" everyone was doubting Dre, most had negative views towards Dre after the whole "2Pac" and "Death Row" drama, so Dre had the motivation and drive to prove people he's "Still" got it. Like Snoop back in the Death Row days, Eminem served as Dre's new "super-duper protoge" to help catapolt the anticipation of "2001".

Now... with all the success Dre has had with the music, with the artists he's brought out, with the respect and legacy, and off course an enormous amount of wealth.... I ask myself... does Dre still have that drive and motivation to make DETOX classic? Most young fans of today fail to realize that the hype and expectations for Dre's supposed final album is extremely high. Not to mention that the man is now 40 years of age, and is more comfortable with the family and money than he has ever been. The pressure on him with this album is damn near impossable to overcome (I hope I'm wrong). Not to mention that every single beat Dre drops...people expect it to be as hot as "Nuthin' But A G-Thang" or "Whats The Differrence", and if Dre makes a westcoast beat...people will be like "oh Dre is still stuck on that WC shit" and if he does a beat for a NY cat...people be like "yo Dre turned his back on the WC".

So I would like to hear all of your thoughts on this, and please try and be as realistic as possable with what you think the outcome of DETOX will be....and why.

i agree wit u

but dre didnt do whats the difference that woz mel man
Hittman is not a real person. He was a computer program generated by Dr. Dre and Mel Man back in the mid 90's. When Dre started treating Mel-Man like shit, Mel infiltrated the computer and put a virus in the hittman program

I thought Mel-Man was a co-producer... where does it say Dre didn't do it? or are you saying that just 'cause Dre didn't have a writing credit on the track?

I think that "Detox" will go down as THE most hyped album in history. Supposing it finally drops by the end of 2006, it will wrap up a 7 year build-up. I remember in the year 2001 when the buzz started...Dre's next album being called "Detox". I think that Dre is motivated as far as leaving his mark in the rap game by delivering a classic final album. He's working with the best musicians, he's finally in a position where he can work with damn near anyone he wants to. You really think any artist will be foolish enough to pass up the opportunity to be on Dre's last album? Plus, he's got the funds to do whatever he wants.

What made Chronic 2001 the story of his career was basically the fact that everyone assumed he 'fell off'. Right now, Dre has more crediblity and respect than ever in my opinion, so naturally there's a shitload of pressure there. After the N.W.A. empire crumbled, Dre regrouped and ushered in the Death Row dynasty. After Death Row's collapse, he did the same thing as before. Got into a new groove, though it took a while. He linked up with new musicians and artists, and delivered "2001", both the album and the era. For both his solo records, he had to rise up from bad situations and move foward. Now, he's in no fucked up spot. He's got nothing to prove, so I see how some cats may assume there's little motivation going into Detox. I just believe that he's developing a new sound and working with a crazy lineup of artists.

To many people, Detox is already a classic and it's never even been released! That's how I know it'll be dope. One more year to go...

i havent heard anything about Dre lately....
but i do know that they start recording for Detox in January... so whats Dre doing? -> i guess for months he's preparing Beats... and the Beats i've heard by him lately wasnt THAT good... so i REALLY REALLY hope this is a sign that he's saving and still working on his best beats to top Chronic AND Chronic 2001...

or what do you guys think dre has been doing from signing bishop until now, or this january? i know dre started to work on Detox back then.. so its like 6 months...or not?

i think dre still can get better...
i mean im producin too - not at the same level... but every time i think i produced an amazing beat, i do something better a few months later... so its a learning process... and if you work hard you can always get better.. there is no physical limit or something... but you still have to love what youre doing - you have to put youre heart into it

and i think he's willing to do that!

for starters... if dre has never disappointed before, why would he now ?

for seconds, if the album will be shit, then it wont be released... simple.

if detox comes out, it will be a classic, you can bet your bottom dollar on that.

I never really liked dre after THE CHRONIC.  2nd album was cool..but didn't really capture..well..the single did: "Still Dre."

Man, dre is old now...he should try something new like making t.v shows or something.

It's time for some new kats to produce real music...but it's my opinion.

i agree with everything you said and as a huge dr. dre i fear the same things you talk about....but i also think we all don't give dre the credit he deserves....we've heard everyone talk about what a perfectionist he is and he's been back and forth so many times now that the only way he will drop detox is if he is 100% motivated....he knows how big his two previous solo albums were and he knows better than all of us put together that this has got to top or atleast equal them to be considered a fitting farewell....so i think we will get it....i know i will be satisfied....call it a hunch from a fellow aquarius ;)
