I'm writing something on this right now, and I'm interested in everyone's opinions.

Basically, I hold two conflicting opinions right now: on one hand, I think that the whole thing may have been an attempt to generate publicity for Snoop and Game's then imminent "How the West was One" tour, or to dead beefs that posed a threat to Snoop personally eg: his feud with Suge.

On the other, I believe that, while Snoop may have really wanted to see the Western Conference lead to the resurrection of the West Coast commercially, like so many of his best-laid plans (his dreams for Doggystyle Records circa 2000/01 spring to mind) it just didn't happen - possibly due to their not being enough commitment and dedication around such plans.

Aside from what it's real purpose may have been, I also aim to discuss how successful it was - and at this point I would have to say not very. We've yet to see Snoop collabo with any up-and-coming West Coast talents (and may never; bear in mind his verse on Daz's ''All I Need'', where he raps "Ay Doggy Dogg, I need a verse - ni*ga, what y'all pay?") and the unity that he apparently strived for hasn't happened - there are still numerous beefs on the West Coast.

The unity is also lacking: West Coast artists who are buzzing right now aren't buzzing because of any aid from Snoop Dogg. Instead, they're buzzing because of a lot of personal hard-work and their own quality material. And let's not forget Game's swipe at Glasses on"120 Bars". I'm sorry, but Game is incredibly successful in his own right and he had no need to even bring up G. Malone on that cut if he wasn't going to congratulate him. Instead, it seemed to me like he felt a little threatened by Glasses very impressive deal. Doesn't look like there's much unity there.

So what's everyone else's take? Any opinions, responses, and comments would be appreciated.

It's just disappointing to see what was essentially a great idea lead to nothing. Yet you still get some rappers saying how successful the whole movement was, although oddly enough those that say such things are usually rappers closely associated with Snoop, eg: Daz.

same shit as the thing with the co founder of the crips i think, its not like he really cares, hes not a crip, hes a rapper, hes weak and would never be into gang shit. he probably felt like he had to do that so that ppl think hes a gangsta or whatever or once again for publicity... artists always want publicity, by any way possible

My own opinion is dis---
The west coast conference is not about Snoop helping everybody on d west, its about niggaz putting their beefs aside and doing good music, look for opportunities in industry, way to get those opportunity and someone like glass is doing that,40 glocc is with g-unit,spider id there too,so some are doing bussinees already,Snoop said  it--him and Dre cant help everybody on d west.

And on the tookie situation i bet its tookie's people and atorney that will come up with d plot of snoop doing rally for him coz he's a celebrity and will get peoples attention(i dont see snoop trying hard to get recognition as a gang member now,he's way past that)
I think west coast artist need to get their hustle on and stop concentrating on  beefs.

And if you care to ask me,i will tell you snoop has given a lot of west coast artist opportunities to shine,50% of d artist i know from west is tru snoop.so its up to them to hustle their way up from there.
And remember snoop is just a rapper, not a producer and bussiness man like dre & co.
thats my view man

The thing is muthafuckas are never gonna stop beefin cats are still beefin right now so that whole shit was not a success. But thats just what i think. As far as Snoop giving West Coast cats opportunities that isnt true neither that only people i heard from him were the east sidaz. Again thats just my outlook on the whole situation.

That was an interesting post, props.

In some ways, I agree. Snoop can't help every new artist on the West Coast. He is, after all, only one man. However, Snoop should have known his limitations when he announced the conference. If he had no intention of working with these cats, or couldn't make the time to do so, then he shouldn't have made so many statements saying that he would. If you're an up-and-coming rapper from anywhere in the world, imagine how excited you would be at the prospect of working with an icon like Snoop. I'm sure that there must have been a few rappers who felt that way, only to be left disappointed to see the Western Conference didn't necessarily benefit their situation. In the same way that some have gone on to say what a good thing the summit was, others have implied that it may have been either for Snoop's personal gain or a publicity stunt.

As for Spider and 40 working with G-Unit, you've got to remember that isn't necessarily a show of West Coast unity being that G-Unit is an East Coast driven clique. I see what you're saying though, and it's good to see some West Coast rappers get a powerhouse label behind them. However, that comes at a cost. We've now seen those pics of 40 wearing a ''Game Over'' T-Shirt after all, and wasn't Jayo meant to have Snoop and Game on his first single back when he was signed to Treacherous? Can't see that happening now...

Snoop and Dre can't help everyone. That much is true. But it seem like, unless you're affiliated with a star like Snoop, Dre, or now The Game, you have to work a hundred times harder to get your name out there. That's why I was a bit disappointed in The Game on "120", as he didn't congratulate Glasses but instead said how pissed he got for G. Malone "misusing" his logo...

As I said originally, I'm still in two minds. What I am certain about, is that more should have been done to push this movement - and not just by Snoop.

g unit ruined a lot of it

also the conference did seem really snoop-centric, like it was mainly snoop's homies and shit

that being said, i think it was a good idea but rappers didn't really stick to it (first yukmouth dissing the fuck out of people, and then 50 setting spider loc to diss the fuck out of people and gettin 40 glocc and jayo a game over t shirt)

and then this lil eazy bullshit (i know lil eazy stans disagree, i don't want to argue with you guys about it, but my personal feeling is that it has something to do with g-unit too), the west on west beef is getting really tiring.  there's enough money for everyone in the music industry

EDIT:

"That's why I was a bit disappointed in The Game on "120", as he didn't congratulate Glasses but instead said how pissed he got for G. Malone "misusing" his logo..."

listen to the lyrics, he's going at mike lynn (guy that signed game, then went to sony and got glasses the sony deal), and he made clear that it wasn't meant to be a diss, but that he was just angry about it.  he and glasses are cool, apparently, and there's no beef there.  game doesn't want to beef with lil eazy either.
